g. What is the main difference between MOV and MVM?
h. What is local control unit (LCU)?
i. Draw the Ladder diagram for EX-OR gate.
j. What is the function of unit level controller in steel plant?

PART-B
4x15=60M
UNIT-I

1. a) With a neat sketch explain the architecture of PLC and mention its advantages over relay systems. (8M)

b) Explain in detail about various programming languages of PLC. (7M)

(or)

2. a) Write short note on (8M)

i) AC discrete input module.

ii) Electromagnetic relay.

b) Explain about the basic logic operations using PLC with examples. (7M)

UNIT-II

3. a) Explain the operation of ON Delay timer and OFF delay timer with the help of an example.(8M)

b) What is the significance of program control instructions in ladder programming? Explain with an
example. (7M)

1
(or)

4. a) A pump is to be used to fill two storage tanks. The pump is manually started by the operator from a
START/STOP station. When the first tank is full, the control logic must be able to automatically
stop flow to the first tank and direct flow to the second tank through the use of sensors and electric
solenoid valves. When the second tank is full, the pump must stop automatically. Indicators are used
to signal when each tank is full.

i) Draw a sketch of the process

ii) Prepare a typical PLC program for the automatic control of the process. (10M)

b). Explain briefly about file control operations (FAL). (5M)
