HISTORY OF AUTOCAD

Introduction

This work deals with AutoCAD and its brief history that covers each of the times in which
said program was created, followed by the components since it is of utmost importance that we know
the basic part of the program, its use and implementation. Then we continue with the application
point, this gives us an understanding of what capabilities the program has and in what areas this
system can be used.

Theoretical foundation
AutoCAD concept

Autodesk AutoCAD is a CAD software used for 2D drawing and 3D modeling. It is currently
developed and marketed by the Autodesk company. The name AutoCAD arises as a creation of the
company Autodesk, in which Auto refers to the company that created the software and CAD refers to
Computer Aided Design (for its acronym in English "Computer Aided Design"), having its first
appearance in 1982.1 AutoCAD is a software recognized internationally for its extensive editing
capabilities, which make it possible to digitally draw building plans or recreate 3D images; It is one of
the most used programs by architects, engineers, industrial designers and others.

History of AutoCAD

In November 1982, Autodesk released the first version of AutoCAD, which provides a simple
line drawing function, no menu, users need to memorize the command, execute it in the DOS
operation system, the software medium is a 360K floppy disk. Because it can be copied freely, it soon
became popular in the design world.
From 1982 to 1988, after nine versions of improvements and enhancements, AutoCAD's drawing
function was gradually improved, with on-screen menus, drop-down menus, and status lines. Version
10 - version R10 introduced in 1988 has a complete graphical user interface and 2D/3D rendering
capabilities, marking the maturity of AutoCAD and establishing its leading position in the
international CAD field. It is from this version that AutoCAD began to spread in China.
The R11 version introduced in 1991 added features such as paper space and 3D solid body modeling.
The R12 version introduced in 1992 has been further improved based on the previous one. A large
2

number of commands are switched to dialog box mode, which is intuitive and convenient. The new
pinch editing and main text editing and receiving function is well received by users. It is considered to
be the most perfect version on the DOS platform.
Version R13, introduced in 1994, was criticized for its large system resources and low
implementation efficiency. It is a version that is not successful.
In 1997, Autodesk released the epoch-making version R14, abandoning traditional DOS and UNIX
platforms, and targeting mature Windows operating systems, pure 32-bit code development, and
comprehensive 2D/3D functions. The Windows user interface fully supports the Windows multi-user
multitasking environment, allowing data sharing and resource sharing between different applications.
The development of AutoCAD has since entered the advanced stage.
Version R15 (including AutoCAD 2000 /2000i /2002), which was released in 1999-2001, continues
to advance, enabling multi-document design environments, adding 2D features such as design centers,
object property management windows, Multiple layout and 3D solids. 3D features such as volume
editing and dynamic 3D viewer, and support mouse wheel zoom and shortcut menus and right menu
shortcut to take the level of AutoCAD application to a new level.
Version R16 (including AutoCAD 2004/2005/2006), introduced in 2003-2005, improves object
definition, has smaller graphics capacity, is more efficient, and no longer supports Windows 95/98. It
can only be run on pure Windows NT/2000/XP 32-bit or higher. AutoCAD 2006 is the perfect
version of 2D graphics with multiple enhancements (true color and gradient fill, table drawing, sheet
set management, etc.) and interface improvements (including header notes for dynamic prompts and
dynamic input).
Since 2006, in light of the expansion of competing software in the field of 3D design, Autodesk has
made the decision to port many of its popular 3DS MAX 3D design programs to AutoCAD R17
(including AutoCAD 2007). /2008/2009): Parameterized solid body model supports deformation
without pinch drag, adds advanced modeling commands such as loft, sweep (SWEEP), spiral and
material editor built-in with 3DS MAX.
