1 INTRODUCTION
It is crucial to regain the control over my career, especially while working on my DPHRM
program. Before I start my career and join the human resource department as a specialist,
I need to have clear and motivating vision statement. This Personal Development Plan
(PDP) is the plan to help me achieve my career goals and personal/professional
development. Thus, in this PDP I would like to establish the goals, define the ways that
would help me achieve these goals and realize the strengths and weaknesses that I have in
order to become a successful Human Resources specialist.

2 SETTING SMART GOALS

Understanding myself is the first step of setting meaningful career goals. So, I have
identified three SMART goals which are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and
time-based.

2.1 Goal 1: Earn an Advanced HR Certification

I plan on obtaining higher education in the area of Human Resource Management in order
to strengthen my formal education credentials. This certification will simply enrich me in
my knowledge and make me more marketable for able to perform higher level job in the
Human resource field. That is why by December 2024, I am going to obtain a certificate in
a recognized program and accomplish the result higher than the mark 85%. This goal will
not only prove the acquired through the coursework theoretical knowledge, but also
showcase my engagement in the professional enhancement in the sphere of HR.

2.2 Goal 2: Gain Practical HR Management Experience

Hence to tickle live examples based on the theoretical knowledge that I have accumulated
throughout my academic period, I plan to take up an internship or a part-time job in an
organization in the capacity of an HR manager. This will offer me practical knowledge and
understanding of HR functions required to execute the job proficiently. I aim at getting an
internship in any reputable firm’s HR department by January, 2025 and accumulate a

1
minimum of 300 practical hours in HR by May, 2025. This goal is also quantitative and
time bound, thus, realistic.

2.3 Goal 3: Develop Leadership Skills

Leadership skills are considered paramount in any career path, including HR management.
For more leadership positions in the future, I want to increase my leadership skills by
engaging and training myself effectively. By June 2025 I shall have attended 5 leadership
development workshops and 3 webinars. These educational opportunities also comprise of
the theoretical orientation as well as the practical tools required in order to effectively lead.

3 DEFINING GOALS AND STEPS TO ACHIEVE THEM

To make these goals achievable, I need to outline what I want to accomplish and the steps
I will take to get there, along with a proper timeframe.

3.1 Goal 1: Earn an Advanced HR Certification

Steps:-
• Investigate and find an accredited certification program by July 2024. This covers
aspects such as accreditation of different certificates, the curriculum offered for the
certificates, and the cost implication of each certificate.
• Complete the program by August of the following year Enroll in the program by
August 2024. When I have selected the right program, I will follow through the
enrollment process.
• Spend 10 hours weekly for class work and study. This will help gain a better grasp
of the material and be prepared for exams and tests as much as possible.
• Pass the certification exams before the end of December in the year 2024. By this
date, I expect to complete all the exams and courses, and get a high grade to prove
my mastery of the subject.

2
3.2 Goal 2: Gain Practical HR Management Experience

Steps:-
• Update and tailor my resume and cover letters by November 2024. Highlight
relevant skills and experiences that make me a strong candidate for HR positions.
• Register with at least 10 HR internships before the end of December in the year
2024. Intensively concentrate on those clusters that guarantee the acquisition of
‘‘good’ hands-on experience.
• Interviews can be formal or informal and can range from one on one to a group
discussion. It would be better to study the companies and memorize the basic
questions that an HR interviewer may ask to have a better chance at being hired.
• Begin the internship before the middle of January in the year 2025. First of all, I
have to start the internship and try to follow all the activities in the specific
environment and gain as much knowledge as possible.
• Achieve 300 hours of work by May of 2025. This is important in order to ensure
that one is not sitting idle but at the same time gaining knowledge on where and
how to intervene within the organization.

3.3 Goal 3: Develop Leadership Skills

Steps:-
• Before the end of September 2024, the following five leadership workshops should
be identified and joined: Choose sessions according to the topics that are of interest,
the popularity of the issues related to the management of personnel among the
leaders of the organization, and the background of the teachers.
• The following person’s development plan includes participating in three leadership
webinars by December 2024. Schedule these webinars at other convenient times so
that the attendees participate in them.
• For example, teach students how to do an HR analysis and then make them do one
in a real-life situation. Apply use leadership techniques in my internship, part-time
job or in any academic projects I may be undertaking.

3
• Check what has been accomplished and change the way of learning with a certain
frequency, for example, on a quarterly basis. Examine my growth and change and
fine-tune them depending on the strategies I am going to use further.

4 IDENTIFYING GAPS IN SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To reach my goals, I need to identify the gaps in my skills and experience and create an
action plan to fill them.

My Current Skills
I possess strong communication skills, a solid understanding of basic HR principles,
proficiency in MS Office, and the ability to work effectively in a team. These strengths
provide a good foundation, but there are areas where I need to grow to achieve my career
goals.
