Technology in the World of Education

“Technology like art is a soaring exercise of the human imagination” (Bell). Today

technology can be found anywhere, especially in schools. Now educators have started to transfer

from using handwritten copies to online assignments causing many people to question the

practicality of using technology. This rising concern has caused the public to appeal to the school

boards to get rid of technology in schools. Some people believe that technology is very harmful

to students in school; however, in reality, technology is one of the best ways to keep students

engaged and prepared for every class. Therefore technology should be used in every class

without people doubting its effectiveness.

One reason why technology is necessary in school is that it helps students across the

world to work together and learn. Technology is used to communicate across the globe and to

learn about anything in the universe. Students use social networking sites to learn from one

another and to express beliefs (What Teachers Think of Children). “Technology is a major part of

how students learn and interact with the world” (Campbell). As director of MHS Matt Campbell

said technology is essential for a student to interact with the world. Some skills they learn from

using technology together are collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. “Technology offers

students assessment capabilities to collect data on each other” (How Technology Helps
2

Elementary). Technology provides students with a better means to find out their mistakes using

collected data. Technology can bring students around the globe to work together, which is many

more people than in a classroom. This huge collaboration can provide students with a much

better learning experience than learning with the same people over and over again. Now without

a doubt, students should use technology so that it can broaden their horizons by letting them

cooperate with others who have unique points of view.

Another reason is that technology helps students stay engaged while learning difficult

topics such as Mathematics and Reading. Technology has applications that can keep a student's

attention and help them learn much more than normal. Technology can be most helpful for

understanding and solving concepts in STEM. “76% of teachers strongly agree that technology

helps enable access to a wider range of resources which otherwise wouldn't be available”

(Henderson 49). Most of the education department agrees that technology gives better

opportunities and exercises for all students. Technology can also provide choices and spark

creativity. “technology makes reading efficient by hyperlinks, tabs and accordions” (pros and

cons of tech). Students use ebooks to improve reading and Khan Academy to help with all other

subjects. As technology is constantly upgraded day by day it is made more effective and

engaging for students. Often students would get bored or outright annoyed because they have to

write out large paragraphs or read long essays to understand a topic but now everyone can do all

of that with one click on the screen. In the end, students can stay engaged, learn better, and

understand hard topics easier.

The last reason is that technology helps give personalized plans for students to improve

on. Every student is unique and they all learn differently, so technology is a huge fix. Not only
3

can it be personalized for specific students, but it also automatically changes difficulty depending

on how far the student will go. Each student is different. Fortunately, technology can help modify

the lesson. “90 percent of teachers agree that the internet encourages learning by connecting

students to… topics that interest them” (Henderson 49). Technology can help students succeed in

what they want to do in the future. Technology can even go as far as to help people who need

more help than their peers like assisted technology. “Assistive technology is anything that helps

students with special needs engage in basic tasks their peers can do without assistance” (earn

your use of technology). Technology has been created to assist anyone. Therefore, technology

can help students grow beyond their capabilities and develop themselves beyond what was

previously thought to be their limits.

It is also true that some students easily get distracted and start playing games. Recently

apps have been developed to stop students from playing games and keep them on topic. Now

more than ever games on Chromebooks are being blocked at a faster rate.“Want to practice

puzzles on Minesweeper. online or play games during tutorials or between classes? If you’re

using the school’s WiFi, you’re increasingly out of luck”(school wifi should not). The wifi in

which technology is used has started blocking many game portals. This stops students from

accessing games during school hours. Playing games which cause the most distraction has started

to be blocked by schools and with this technology can no longer be considered a distraction, so it

should be the cause to help students grow the most.

Technology is found everywhere, even in schools. It can transform students into the best

version of themselves, but some people doubt its effectiveness. Technology helps students across

the world to work together and learn anything, technology helps students to stay engaged while
4

learning difficult topics such as Mathematics and Reading. Finally, technology helps give

personalized plans for students to improve on. Therefore technology, the peak of mankind, can

give results like no other should be held down just because some people were taught differently.
