Design basis

1. Mesh is supported by perforated plate, hence the internal/external

pressure loads will be taken by perforated plate.
2. Perforated plate is designed for collapsible pressure of 1 kg/cm²
from internal side, as per ASME Sec VIII Div 1 with Ligament efficiency
in lieu of joint efficiency.
3. Perforated plate is designed for differential pressure of 1 kg/cm²
from both sides (internal & external) as per ASME Sec VIII Div 1,
with Ligament efficiency in lieu of joint efficiency.
4. Stiffeners are provided on outer side of perforated plate as
per ASME requirements and our standard practice for guiding and
smooth operation.
5. Ligament efficiency calculation is as under:
Ligament efficiency: (based on ASME Sec VIII Div 1, UG-53, Fig.UG-53.5)
Diagonal pitch of holes p' = 1.50 cm
Longitudinal pitch p1 = 2.59 cm
Diameter of hole d = 1.0 cm
Diagonal efficiency UG-53, Fig.UG-53.5 (note-b) LD= J+0.25-(1-0.01LE)v(0.75+J)
0.00375 + 0.005J
= 33.73
Longitudinal efficiency UG-53, Fig.UG-53.5 (note-d) LL = [(p1 - d) / p1] 100
= 61.5
Ligament efficiency UG-53 (note-e),lower of (LD,LL) LE = 33.73 %

ASME Code, Section VIII, Division 1, 2017

Thickness Due to Internal Pressure (Tr):

= (P*(D/2-CAE)) / (S*E+0.4*P) per Appendix 1-1 (a)(1)
= (1.00*(66.0000/2-0.000)/(1063.35*.19+0.4*1.00)
= 0.1635 + 0.0000 = 0.1635 mm

Max. All. Working Pressure at Given Thickness (MAWP):

= (S*E*(T-CA-CAE)) / ((D/2-CAE)-0.4*(T-CA-CAE)) per Appendix 1-1 (a)(1)
= (1063.35*.19*(1.2000))/(66.0000/2-0.000-0.4*1.2000)
= 7.43 kgf/cm^2

Maximum Allowable Pressure, New and Cold (MAPNC):

= (SA*E*T) / (D/2-0.4*T) per Appendix 1-1 (a)(1)
= (1174.13*.19*1.2000)/(66.0000/2-0.4*1.2000)
= 8.21 kgf/cm^2

Actual stress at given pressure and thickness (Sact):

= (P*((D/2-CAE)-0.4*(T-CA-CAE))) / (E*(T-CA-CAE))
= (1.00*(((66.0000/2-0.000)-0.4*(1.2000)))/(.19*(1.2000))
= 143.08 kgf/cm^2
