Limar Braided Line R/socket (Pear Drop)

Background:

On 14Aug 12:
Surface pull test R/socket to 4000Lbs.
Rih JDC pulling tool + Dummy R/socket + 1.50"x 2' Stem + RB pulling tool to latch Peak prong at 8788 RKB. Work jar up 15
times - no progress - fire oil jars 1800 lbs and pull tension 1 x 2000 lbs. Lost weight. Pooh - found cable slip out of R/socket.

Investigation:
- Found Limar Pear drop for braided line R/socket ID is 0.225” (stamped on body 0.250”). Incorrect pear drop for 7/32” wire.

- For our operation 0.250” Pear drop is used for ¼” wire, Not for 7/32” wire
- Checked stores, found all Limar Pear Drops have 6 segments. (Limar no longer supplies 8-segment pear drops).

Picture, from left hand side, pear drop for 7/32”, ¼”, 5/16” wire, all are 6-segments.

Planning:-

 Before make up R/socket first check the ID of the Pear drop, also check for wear inside.

For 7/32” wire

For ¼” wire

For 5/16” wire

 Put the wire inside the pear drop with retainer sleeve & split sleeve, if correct size of pear drop the pear drop will grip
the wire and cannot move. If incorrect pear drop, it will move freely, be aware for larger ID of pear drop with smaller
wire.

On top in picture for Pear drop for ¼” wire with 7/32” wire
On below in picture Pear drop for 7/32” wire with correct wire

 See the stamp on pear drop, 0.218” for 7/32 wire.

 See stamp on pear drop, 0.250” for ¼” wire.

 This type of Limar pear drop not used in our operations.

 Must surface pull test R/socket before RIH.
 EVERY WIRELINE OPERATOR MUST CHECK AND INSPECT EVERY ROPE SOCKET TO ENSURE THE CORRECT
PEAR DROPS ARE BEING USED FOR THE ROPE SOCKETS. IF UNSURE DO NOT RIH.
