☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared

Lesson idea implementation:

First, I will start the lesson by explaining the standards we are going to be working on with a brief
overview of wat the standard is stating. I will then explain the goals we have set for this lesson and
the outcomes we are hoping for at the end. I will open the floor to any questions before we begin
and begin our class discussion. Our class discussion will be about what we already know about the
government and the smaller roles of government we see in our local area. After discussing students’
prior knowledge, I will show them the layout and steps of the Padlet they will be using to gain a
higher knowledge about the United States Government. Students will be engaged and focused on
their learning process because the tools to facilitate their learning while also keeping them
entertained. After guiding them through the features of Padlet I will check for understanding and
see if anyone has any questions. I will then provide a link to the Padlet so they can go out on their
own and complete the assignment independently at their own pace. I will push for this to be done
independently but will allow if questions arise students can ask their peers for help. The students
will be able to ask me questions as they complete their work and if they seem to be struggling, I will
do occasional check-ins. During this time, I will still be walking around and providing guidance and
feedback. The Padlet I created will assess students in their learning with games and quizzes and
reflection task.
Managing student learning:
The tools I used for creating my lesson were Padlet, Blooket, Quizizz, BrainPOP and so much more. I
used the tools to promote engagement while also giving students the needed learning experience at
their own pace. These tools all offer something different to the classroom with collaborative
features, interactive quizzes and allowing students to take lead as active learners. To allow for time-
on-task learning, I will have a set time for students to spend on each task so that too much time is
not spent on a set task. Co-engagement will be involved if students decide to help each other of not
because this is not a silent activity students can still collaborate or ask peers questions if they choose
to. Discussions on Padlet will also foster peer interaction when needed, but ultimately the students
will be able to take ownership of their learning of our government.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Padlet is an informational tool and technology tool. It supports and enhances the learning
experience for students in the classroom as it allows them to gain knowledge through the interactive
tools in the Padlet lesson. These activities planned to cater to student engagement adhere to the
UDL framework by not only supporting engagement but also Representation and Action/ Expression.
Through the interactive tools, students can engage in different activities that cater to collaboration,
accessibility and varied expressions of understanding. I believe this lesson will impact students
learning by giving them the independence to guide their own learning with collaboration and
interactive activities that move at their pace and their control.
Reflective Practice:
When I look back at the designing of this lesson idea, I do believe these tools will help students build
an understanding in a way that the traditional method may fall short. The main point of the lesson is
to use a technology artifact and to make it interactive to support the student’s engagement and
motivation, ultimately increasing their learning skills. With the lesson being interactive to support
the student’s engagement and motivation this will help increase learner skills. While the lesson is so
interactive and engaging, I think they will all learn more than sitting for a lecture or taking notes
from a smart board. I think this is a new fun refreshing way for kids to learn.
