TRANSFORMERS REVIEW

Naufal | Akmal | Yuvita | Wafa

Transformers is a film series made by Hasbro to advertise their line-up of toys. The
2023 entry introduces a new faction called “Maximals”. This faction includes robots that can
turn into animals as opposed to vehicles. We will be discussing the plot and give our opinion
on this movie.
The movie starts in an earth-like planet. A robot gorilla carrying a key is being chased
by Scourge, a Terrorcon who is the main antagonist of this movie. Scourge is sent by Unicron
to fetch the Transwarp Key. The Transwarp Key allows its holders to open a portal through
time and space and travel through the galaxies. Unicron is stuck in this galaxy and cannot
devour more planets. He needs the key to escape.
The gorilla almost gets killed but gets rescued by robot animals: Optimus Primal
(another gorilla), Airazor (a hawk), Cheetor (a cheetah), and Rhinox (a rhinoceros). The
gorilla holding the key gives the key to Primal and instructs Primal to escape. Primal
reluctantly agrees but then runs to an escape pod. The gorilla stays behind to buy them some
time. Scourge catches up to the gorilla, and they both fight. The gorilla is defeated, but he has
successfully bought time for Primal. Scourge watches the escape pod launch into space. He
steals the gorilla’s insignia and faces Unicron. Unicron is angry at Scourge’s failure, so
Unicron orders Scourge to hunt for the key. Primal arrives on earth where he’ll guard the key.
A man is repairing a TV box and succeeds. He’s Noah Diaz, our main protagonist, and
he lives with his mother and his brother, Kris Diaz. They talk on the radio using nicknames.
Noah’s mother goes to work to make ends meet, and Noah prepares for an interview.
Previously, the interview was a success on the phone, so this is just a formality. Kris’s
condition is getting worse, so Noah decides to visit a hospital on the way to his interview.
Noah gives the TV box to a friend, and his friend offers him a job. Noah walks away without
saying a word.
An intern makes her way into a museum. She’s Elena Wallace. Her boss, who treats
her like trash, tells her to identify objects a seller has sent for verification. A statue of a hawk
with strange symbols catches her attention. Her boss says that the symbols are Peruvian, but
she remarks that the symbols are not peruvian. So, she decides to begin research on the
statue.
At the hospital, Noah is confronted by a doctor. Kris’s bill hasn’t been paid, so the
doctor can’t provide help. Feeling disappointed, Noah goes to his interview. Turns out, his
interview has been cancelled because his commanding officer told the interviewer about
Noah’s bad traits. On the train, Kris tries to console Noah. Noah decides to call his friend and
take the job.
Elena is writing the symbols on the statue when her boss comes in. Her boss asks for
Elena’s opinion on her dress, and Elena feigns approval. Then, Elena shows her boss the
results of her research. Her boss is mildly amused, then she tells Elena to wash her clothes.
Elena is disappointed but then sees her boss’s ID card. She decides to sneak into her office to
further her research.
Noah arrives with his friend at a parking garage. His friend tells Noah to sneak in and
steal a car. His friend gives him a walkie-talkie. Noah sneaks in through another building and
arrives at a parking garage. He finds the car, a Porsche 964, and tries to enter it. He opens the
car, but then it locks itself. This repeats until he outsmarts the car. He enters it, and he’s
enamoured by it.
Elena is scanning the statue, but it suddenly crumbles and reveals the Transwarp Key.
After it’s revealed, it emits a beacon. Optimus Prime sees it calls the Autobots to gather, and
Scourge is also alerted to the beacon. Scourge and his Terrorcons, Battletrap and Nightwing,
go to the beacon.
Noah decides that he regrets choosing to steal the car. He tries to tell his friend on the
walkie-talkie, but the car suddenly turns on. A security guard catches him, but the car speeds
away with Noah still in it. His friend sees the car pass by and jumps in joy. His friend tries to
follow the car but runs away after seeing a police car. The Porsche is chased by the police. It
does a jump and almost gets hit. On a bridge, the car shows that it’s an Autobot, the good
faction in Transformers. It transforms and multiplies. It escapes the police and enters an
abandoned warehouse.
At the abandoned warehouse, Noah is thrown out when the car transforms into a
robot. The robot introduces itself as Mirage. Noah grabs a pipe to defend himself, but he
drops it when Mirage aims a cannon at him. The other Autobots come and discover Noah.
There’s Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Arcee. Prime is mad and reprimands Mirage. Then,
they discuss about the Transwarp Key that can take them home. They’ve been stranded for 7
years on earth and need the key to go back. It’s in the museum Elena is at, so they can’t take
it by themselves. They decide to recruit Noah to grab the key. Then, they go to the museum.
Elena is about to run away with the Transwarp Key, but she is stopped by Noah. Noah
lies about being a janitor. Elena doesn’t buy it and screams for help. They fight for a while
until a security guard comes. The Terrorcons arrive and explode the museum. A fight breaks
out between the Terrorcons and Autobots while the humans are chased by Scourge’s robot
dogs. The humans narrowly escape the dogs, but Elena trips and loses the Transwarp Key.
Scourge grabs it after defeating Prime, and Scourge kills Bumblebee on the way. Prime is
almost killed, but Airazor, the hawk Maximal, saves him. After the Terrorcons retreat, Airazor
tells the Autobots and humans to follow her.
They arrive at a junkyard. Prime is mad and throws things around. He feels that, as a
leader, he has failed the Autobots for letting Bumblebee die. The Autobots are worried that
they lost the key, but Airazor says that the key was split in half for safety reasons. Airazor
thinks that she’s the last Maximal alive as they’ve split, so they split the key for safekeeping.
Airazor doesn’t know where the other half is, but Elena chimes in by saying it’s in Peru.
Noah goes home with Mirage to prepare.
Unicron is angry that Scourge only has one half of the key. In order to appease his
master, Scourge hunts for the other half of the key.
Noah arrives home late at night. Kris wakes up and learns that Noah must go for a
long time. Mirage tries to peek in, but he’s discovered. Kris realizes that the car outside is
Mirage, a robot. Kris wants to join Noah, but Kris is rejected. Kris realizes why he’s told to
stay home, so he makes Mirage promise to bring Noah back home. Mirage remarks, “Cojones
muy grande” which can either mean bravery or something obscene.
Noah and Mirage go back to the junkyard to meet up with the others. An old plane
flies overhead, and Mirage instantly becomes worried. The plane lands and introduces
himself as Stratosphere. They all board the plane and begin their journey to Peru. The humans
and robots sit far away. Noah and Elena talk about their background while the Autobots
discuss about reviving Bumblebee. Prime says it’s possible with Energon only if they can get
home.
They arrive at Peru. An old VW T1 bus arrives to greet them. This is Wheeljack, and
Noah comments on his accent. Wheeljack replies by saying that it’s a bit racist. Wheeljack
tells them that the other half of the key is in the Santo Domingo church, but they can’t get
there because the Inti Raymi festival has blocked access to the church. They decide to send
the humans to fetch the key. Mirage gives Noah a glove.
Noah and Elena make their way through the crowd, but Scourge discovers them. He
sends his dogs after them. Noah and Elena make it to the church. They see a puzzle bearing
the Maximals symbol. They solve it and discover an abandoned temple. Noah shines the way
using his glove. They stumble upon a coffin with weird symbols on the lid. They open it
slowly, but nothing is in it. They hear some sounds from behind. Elena decides to write down
the symbols. Then, both run. They radio the Autobots for help while running in some
catacomb tunnels. The Autobots chase after them overground while the Terrorcons follow
them. Noah discovers that the glove is a gun and shoots a dog. The Autobots and Terrorcon
fight on a mountain road. Prime almost gets killed, but he’s saved Airazor. Scourge shoots
Airazor with something.
Noah and Elena emerge out of the tunnels into a forest. There, a confrontation
between the Autobots and Maximals happen. This confrontation is stopped by Airazor who’s
glad that the other Maximals are alive. Noah asks if Airazor is okay, and she answers that
everything’s fine. They all go to a village they’ve helped for a long time. They show the
Autobots the other half of the key. Then, they put Bumblebee’s corpse on a stone near a river
full of Energon. Prime asks Primal if Bumblebee could be revived. Primal says they can’t as
there’s not enough Energon. Noah discovers that Kris gave Mirage a walkie-talkie to update
Kris on Noah.
Noah and Elena are preparing to sleep, so they decide to talk for a bit before sleeping.
Noah says that he wants to destroy the key, but Elena points out that Prime is just a brother
trying to take care of his siblings. Noah thinks for a bit, and they all go to sleep.
Elena is wakes up to Airazor twitching violently. She’s been infected by Scourge, so
the robots give the humans the key and tell them to run. While running, Noah tries to destroy
the key with his glove. Prime begs Noah to not destroy it, and Noah complies—unfortunately,
Airazor steals the key and gives it to Scourge. Scourge escapes, and Primal has to administer
a coup de grâce on Airazor.
Scourge starts the process to teleport Unicron using a machine on the mountain while
the protagonists watch from afar. Noah inspires the others to destroy the key, and they all
huddle together and hatch up a plan. Destroying it would cause an implosion the size of a
supernova, but there’s a long-lost password to stop the process. Elena remembers the codes
she’s written which turns out to be the password. There’s a tunnel that leads to the key that
the humans can take. The Autobots and Maximals will distract the Terrorcons while the
humans will deactivate the key. Then, they head to the mountain.
The Autobots and Maximals engage in battle with the Terrorcons and Unicron’s army.
The Maximals transform into robots, and Prime and Primal kill Battletrap. Energon escapes
Battletrap and enter Bumblebee. Mirage distracts Scourge while Noah and Elena take the
tunnel. Mirage is defeated, and both humans are discovered. Elena runs towards the key
while Scourge attempts to kill Noah. Mirage protects Noah and Mirage passes out. Noah
gives up, but Kris’s voice comes from the walkie-talkie to encourage him. Mirage wakes up
and becomes a suit for Noah to control.
Elena’s bag almost falls into lava, and she successfully reaches the key after killing
one of Scourge’s dogs. Noah can’t control his suit yet and gets taken by Nightwing.
Stratosphere is carrying Bumblebee, and Bumblebee kills Nightwing. While Noah and
Bumblebee thin out Unicron’s army, Prime fights Scourge and he wins. Before his death,
Scourge shoots the control panel for the key. Because the password doesn’t work anymore,
Prime decides to sacrifice himself to destroy the key. Everyone else escapes, and Prime
destroys the key.
The implosion happens, and Prime is sucked in. Primal and Noah save Prime as
they’ve stayed behind. Everyone gets to safety, and Noah and Elena return home. Noah is
greeted by his mother and Kris.
Now, Noah is preparing for an interview. He watches the TV as it shows Elena isn’t
an intern anymore. His interviewer asks him about his experience in Peru, which Noah
realizes he hasn’t told his interviewer about it. The interviewer turns out to be from a secret
organization, and he ensures Noah that Kris will be provided with the best medical care. The
interviewer offers Noah a job which he said he will think about. Then, the interviewer opens
a secret door and reveals a secret base. He gives Noah a name card with “G.I. Joe” written on
it.
The movie ends with Noah repairing Mirage. His friend is annoyed that he won’t sell
Mirage, and he conveys his frustration in acquiring parts for it. Then, his friend bets that the
car won’t start. Noah takes him up on that bet and Mirage awakens. His friend is shocked, but
Noah is glad that he’s back.

REVIEW:

- Yuvita thinks it’s ⭐9/10 because:

Really good, the film is awesome. Bumblebee’s revival was unexpected, and his strength
increase was cool. The fight scenes were awesome.
- Akmal thinks it’s ⭐9/10 because:

Although the film has a lot of weird moments, I liked it for the story and visuals.

- Naufal thinks it’s ⭐9/10 because:

The film has many inconsistencies. The plot starts to become stale near the end as well.
Though, since this is a movie made with a younger demographic in mind, I’ll be fair.

- Wafa thinks it’s ⭐8/10 because:

Good show. I enjoyed the movie all the way through.
