HiPAP® Transceiver x81
Information letter
HiPAP® Transceiver x81 backplane improvements
It has been reported that connectors connecting the solenoids L1 and L2 to the HiPAP Transceiver backplane are burnt on
some installations. P3, P4, P5 and P6 for L1 and P7, P8, P9 and P18 for L2.
The connectors are replaced with terminal blocks on the new backplanes to avoid this problem.
Picture 1 shows the old connectors reported with problems. Picture 2 shows the corrections made to terminal blocks.
Visual inspection
It is recommended to visually inspect the connectors if you have a backplane with old connectors.
Disconnect the Transceiver rack from the cabinet by following this procedure:
1. Open the transceiver hatch and turn the switch on the PSU Main power supply to Service.
- Inspect voltage LED indicators on each TRX32 board. All LED indicators showing voltage should be lit.
2. Shut the power off using the fuse on the terminal board below the Transceiver rack.
3. Unscrew the four screws holding the Transceiver rack in place.
4. Open the small hatch on the left side of the Transceiver unit.
5. Disconnect all network cables and sync cable going to TRX32 board No. 1.
6. Pull the rack out gently, about 10 cm.
7. Disconnect the cables going into the back of the rack. Furthest in, there is a power cable going into the rack which
need to be disconnected as well.
NOTE! The cables are marked with numbers, note which order they are connected to make sure they can be
reconnected in the same order. This is very important!
8. Lift the rack all the way out of the unit.
- In between the 8 filter boards and the power plug connection, you are able to see the backplane and some green
connectors. In some cases one of these connectors has been burned.
- If this is the case, then take a picture of this and email it to [email protected].
See next page for more information.
Temporary solution
A short term fix in case the connectors are burnt is to:
1. Remove the plug.
2. Solder the wires directly to the backplane in the same order as they are connected to the plug, to get the HiPAP system
back in operation.
- Our advise is to order a new rack (without the TRX boards) and replace it with a new one, along with new
power supplies.
Preventive action
If the connectors are still intact, then it is recommended to tighten all the srews connecting the plugs to the backplane.
Software verification
Check the connector performance by following this procedure:
1. Locate the correct APC computer connected to the Transceiver unit.
2. Press Alt+TAB on APC keyboard to select the HiPAP-program.
3. Select Tools —> System Report.
4. Save the System Report onto a USB stick.
5. Open APOS —> Event View —> ERROR Low Power 6V.
- The Error message is displayed as a Warning and not as an Alarm.
6. Send the HiPAP Report + screen shot of the Event View to on the following email address:
