Comparatives Superlatives
For short adjectives
(for one-syllable adj-er + (than) the + adj-est
adjectives or Ex: long - longer, Ex: long - the longest,

For long adjectives
(for the left two-syllable more + adj + (than) the most + adj
adjectives and for all Ex: Ex:

Note:
- If an adjective ends in –e, we add –r or –st.
Ex: nice - nicer - the nicest
large - larger - the largest
- If an adjective ends in a vowel and a consonant, we double the consonant.
Ex: big - bigger - the biggest
thin - thinner - the thinnest
- If an adjective ends in a consonant and –y, we change –y to –i and add –er or –est.
Ex: happy - happier - the happiest
silly - sillier - the silliest
- You can either add er / r and est / st or use more and most with these common
two-syllable adjectives: common, cruel, gentle, handsome, narrow, pleasant, polite,
simple, stupid, likely …
Ex: He is certainly handsomer than his brother.
His brother is handsome, but he is more handsome.
She is one of the politest people I have ever met.
She is the most polite person I have ever met.
