VOCABULARY
Blockbuster /ˈblɑːkbʌstər/
(noun) Phim bom tấ n
A Hollywood blockbuster
Answer: Well, I would say both, the only thing that matters is that the story should be
good. I like watching films with unexpected plot twist. The plot twist plays a
significant role in the success of a movie. It is the factor that captures the
audience’s attention and lead them from surprise to another surprise. So, for me
the story matters, everything else is secondary.
Secondary /ˈsekənderi/
(adj)
VOCABULARY MEANING
Cartoon/ Animation
Phim hoạ t hình
( /kɑːrˈtuːn//ˌænɪˈmeɪʃn/)
When it comes to movies, I prefer dramas and suspense films. Dramas allow me to
explore complex human emotions and relationships, while suspense films keep
me engaged with their thrilling narratives and plot twists.
I don't go to the cinema very often, but I still enjoy the occasional movie theater
experience. Nowadays, I mostly watch movies at home through streaming
platforms. However, I try to make it to the cinema for special or highly
anticipated films.
I would say both actually. When I watch movies alone, I can fully focus on the film and
enjoy it at my own pace. On the other hand, watching movies with friends adds
a fun and social aspect to the experience. It really depends on my mood and the
type of movie I want to watch.
I tend to lean towards films made in my country because they have a special
significance to me. They capture the nuances of our culture and address societal
themes that I can easily relate to. Watching these films provides a sense of
familiarity and a deeper connection to the stories being depicted, making the
viewing experience more enjoyable for me.
I think films can be an integral part of education, just not in the traditional sense.
Through films we enable people to learn visually, which can be beneficial to
people who simply do not work well with books. We create empathy, show a
different perspective or give insight into a character’s life or a different place in
the world. As a teaching aid, people will probably respond better to a film than a
text as it will hold their attention better. Even if a film is not educational at its
core, you can use subtitles to improve reading and literacy skills, and with the
multitude of books turning into films nowadays I think it makes it easier for
people to be moved to read the book after watching an entertaining film.
2. In what ways are documentary films and films only for entertainment
different?
I think the key difference between both of them is imagination, the goal of a
documentary is mainly to inform about a particular topic set in reality, films for
entertainment have more of a leeway to play with facts, characters and
storylines. But as dissimilar as they can be one from the other, they can both
tackle the same subjects just through different methods perhaps. Because at the
end of the day, both should be entertaining or rather both should be captivating
enough that an audience will want to watch it and finish it. I would also think
that usually a documentary film will have a much lower production cost than an
entertainment film will, so you’ll have smaller crews working on recording it
and producing.
I’ve never really thought about this, but I would say unlike in films there is no script to
life and you are not always in control of what happens. Films have a very
definite start, middle and end. Life has a fixed start and an end, but you can also
see it as a continuous series of stories linked together haphazardly, some stories
never end in our life simply fade away, some are short and boring. That would
be the biggest difference I think, films are entertaining all the way through, life
has lulls.
I think it is because it forces people to look at reality and reality is often dissapointing.
We watch films for entertainment, to disconnect in a sense from what is
happening around us. A documentary places a mirror in front of the society
with current issues, and that is not everyone’s cup of tea. If I live in a crime-
ridden place, I don’t necessarily want to see the reality behind it, but I would
rather see a cop show up instead, which is more glamorous. There’s also the fact
that documentary quality seems to be all over the place, some are excellent,
heart-wrenching, beautifully produced pieces of work, while others are terribly-
lit and painfully edited pieces of garbage. So one bad experience could make
people more hesitant to jump into documentary films in general.
One subject that I truly enjoyed studying at school was mathematics. Mathematics has
always intrigued me with its depth, abstract nature, and interconnectedness with
other fields of study2. I find math fascinating not only for its problem-solving
challenges but also for the satisfaction of scoring well on exams and tackling complex
mathematical concepts1. The structured and logical nature of mathematics appeals to
my analytical mindset, and I appreciate the dopamine rush that comes with solving
difficult problems1.
Moreover, my love for mathematics extends beyond the surface-level teachings from
high school, as I acknowledge that there is so much more to explore in the realm of
"true mathematics" beyond the school curriculum1. While not everyone shares this
enthusiasm for math, I have found joy and intellectual stimulation in diving deep into
mathematical concepts and theories, pushing the boundaries of my mathematical
understanding1. This subject has not only sharpened my analytical skills but also
provided me with a sense of accomplishment and intellectual growth.

memorizing capitals and rivers – it's like a passport to exploring the world from
the comfort of your classroom. Imagine flipping through the pages of a giant,
fascinating textbook, where every chapter unveils a new culture, landscape, or
ecosystem. Geography isn't just about memorizing facts; it's about
understanding the intricate connections between people and places.

Iceland, or the vast, vibrant coral reefs teeming with life – it all fueled a
burning desire to experience these wonders firsthand, to immerse myself in
the rich tapestry of cultures and soak up the beauty of diverse landscapes.

group presentation on deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.
Finally, the presentation day arrived. Standing in front of the packed lecture hall, a
nervous flutter danced in my stomach. But as Sarah, our leader, launched into
the first section, then David seamlessly took over with his captivating visuals,
and I wrapped it up with a call to action, a sense of calm washed over me. The
presentation was a success – informative, engaging, and it sparked a lively
discussion among our classmates.

1 How has teaching changed in your country in the last few decades?
Audio
Answer: In recent years, Vietnam has undergone significant changes in the education
system, one of which is the introduction of new textbooks. These modern
textbooks are designed to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities,
providing students with a more diverse educational experience. Additionally,
the integration of advanced equipment such as projectors and TVs into the
classroom has revolutionized the way lessons are delivered. These
multimedia tools facilitate interactive and dynamic learning environments,
allowing students to engage with course material in innovative ways.
Furthermore, these technological advancements have opened up new avenues
for collaborative learning, as students can participate in group discussions and
collaborative projects facilitated by digital platforms.
Vocabulary:
revolutionize: cá ch mạ ng hó a

2 What is the difference between the way children learn and the way adults
learn?
Audio
Answer: Children are like sponges, soaking up information effortlessly through play
and exploration. They're naturally inquisitive, constantly asking "why" and
"how," which fuels their insatiable curiosity. Adults, on the other hand, often
need a more practical reason to learn. They might be motivated by career
advancement or a personal interest, but it usually has a clearer goal attached.
While this can make adults more focused learners, I sometimes miss the sheer
joy of discovery that children possess. It's a reminder that learning shouldn't
always be about the destination, but the fascinating journey along the way.

In my opinion, learning about other cultures is quite essential because not only can we
discover interesting facts around the world and expand our horizons but also interact with
people from different cultural backgrounds more effectively. We will become more open-
minded and globalized citizens. This will make our work and life easier in a new place.
3. What do you think is the best way to learn about another culture?
In my opinion, the best way to learn about a culture is to go there and experience it. If you
can see the culture with your own eyes, it will be a lot easier for you to understand many
differences among countries. However, I also believe that you can learn about other cultures
by reading books about them. Reading about people's experiences in foreign lands is also an
enjoyable activity.
4. Do you think that learning foreign languages can help us understand foreign
cultures?
Yes, I think so. When we learn a new language, it comes along with learning about a new
culture. While learning a different language can make us more aware of cultural differences,
we also understand why those differences exist and the importance of respecting cultures
different from ours.
5. Do you think it is easier to learn about other cultures today than it was before?
Yes, of course. With the Internet and the number of books available, it is far easier and faster
to learn about different cultures around the world. We can find videos about different
cultures on YouTube or other social media. In contrast, in the past, we could only learn about
other cultures via photos or books.
