• Entire survey work to be done based on Qatar National Grid and Height Datum (QNHD),
Permanent/Government Bench marks shall be protected.
• Concrete shall not be placed in adverse conditions such as dust storms or heavy rain.
8.2 Work Methodology
Blinding Concrete:
• The bottom surface of the excavation shall be manually trimmed to the required formation
level. In case of any over digging that shall be replaced with blinding concrete.
• Blinding concrete shall be as per approved mix design.
• The area covered by blinding shall be minimum 100mm wider than the foundation/structure
to allow the formwork installation and termination of waterproofing.
Waterproofing:
• Installation of waterproofing shall be in accordance with approved shop drawing or standard
details SD 8-4-103 Rev.1 and approved Method Statement for Substructure Waterproofing
Works (DS140-4-MST-CIV-016).
Formwork & Rebar Installation:
• Clear access (Ingress/egress) to be provided for work force involved and maintained.
• The system formwork and accessories shall be as per approved shop drawings and
calculations.
• The faces of the forms in contact with the concrete shall be clean and treated with an
approved release agent.
• Concrete spacers are fixed and maintained to ensure the clear cover to the reinforcement as
per shop drawing details.
• Bar bending schedule and reinforcement as approved shall be checked and verified on site.
• Starter reinforcement bar for the column/wall will be checked for its position, size, quantity,
spacing and cover prior to any concrete being poured with reference to the approved
reinforcement shop drawings.
• Spacers, chairs and other supports shall be provided as necessary to maintain the
reinforcement in its correct position during construction.
• All the reinforcement shall be as per the approved shop drawings and continues checking
during the placement of the reinforcement to ensure that the required cover and spacing of
the reinforcement are maintained.
• Chips, wood, sawdust, dirt, and other debris shall be removed from concrete pouring area in
each stages of concrete activity to maintain clean surface for concrete placement.
• Forms and bracing before placing concrete, as required, shall be retightened to prevent
mortar leaks and maintain proper alignment.
Pre- pour Inspection:
• Prior to concrete placement, inspection shall be conducted by Contractor QC and Consultant
to check complete formwork installation, reinforcing steel, and items to be embedded or
cast in.
• All embedded items for concrete (foundation, column, walls, slabs and slab on grade) to be
inspected by respective personnel (MEP or other) and signed off as acceptance for concrete
pouring
• MEP clearance (if required) shall be cleared and signed by respective parties.
• Once the pre-pour inspection carried out, the pre-pour card shall be signed to proceed with
casting.

Concrete Casting:
• The class of concrete for all concreting shall be as per approved concrete mix design.
• Concrete will be placed in a continues motion with the aid of a concrete pump, in accordance
with the agreed pour plan. The concrete will be placed in layers of not more than 300 mm in
depth and will be placed in a set sequence to ensure there are no cold joints or overloading
of the formwork.
• The concrete shall be dropped into place from a height not exceeding 1.5m through dense
reinforcing steel.
• Placed concrete shall be properly vibrated by mechanical needle (immersion type) vibrator,
for full depth of fresh concrete and 100 mm into previous layer for ensuring full compaction
• The uppermost layer of the concrete surface shall be re-vibrated to minimize the risk of plastic
settlement. The top surface of fresh concrete shall be finished smoothly by using power
trowel.
• The competent person will be onsite at all times during the concreting works to directly
oversee the activity. Supervisors / Forman are provided at each designated area to monitor
false work and formwork during the concrete pour supervised by the competent person.
• The construction joint must be clear of all slurries and waste materials so that it provides the
best possible connection with the succeeding concrete.
The construction joints area shall be prepared in the following:
• The concrete surfaces shall be sprayed with a fine spray of water or brushed with a stiff brush,
just sufficiently to remove the outer mortar skin and expose the larger aggregate without
disturbing it. Alternatively, where this preparation proves impractical, the hardened surface
skin and laitance shall be removed by grit blasting or by a needle gun. Hardened surfaces shall
not be hacked.
• Sweeping off and regular cleaning of the upper layers of the reinforcement shall be done
during and after concrete placement to avoid dried out mortar remaining around the bars.
• During placing of all reinforced concrete, competent steel fixer/s & competent carpenter/s
shall be in attendance on each concrete gang. They shall ensure the reinforcement embedded
fittings & forms are kept in position as works proceed.
Post Concreting Works:
Surface Finishing:
• The type of concrete surface finish will be specified on the drawings or as directed by the
Engineer.
• Initial finishing of unformed surfaces shall commence immediately after the placing and
compaction have taken place.
• The addition of small quantities of water to the finishing trowel will be permitted to aid
finishing
Curing:
• After completion of concreting and initial concrete setting, curing shall be done in the
exposed areas as early as possible to maintain the concrete moisture content.
• The method of curing (Water curing or curing compound) shall ensure that sufficient
moisture is present to complete the hydration of the cement, and shall be to the approval
of the Engineer
• Curing shall continue for at least 7 days (if water curing).

• Curing compounds shall be applied in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations immediately on exposed concrete surface after initial setting, and after
striking of formworks.
• Fresh concrete shall be sheltered and protected immediately after placing from sun and
wind to avoid evaporation of surface water. After finishing operations which shall be
completed as soon as possible even by additional labor, the surface shall be covered by
polythene sheeting.
• Hardened concrete shall be sheltered after the end of setting time against loss of humidity
during.
Post Concreting Inspection:
• After removal of formwork the surface to be inspected and if any pinholes should be
repaired with approved repairing material and procedure only.
• Construction, expansion joints to be provided as per details in approved shop/IFC drawing,
for expansion joints, make sure no reinforcement is passing through and ensure that no
curing compound applied on sides of the joints
• INR (Inspection Notification Request) shall be submit to the Consultant at least 24 hours
prior to any inspection.
• Inspection Checklist document are available as part of the ITP.
• In case of any concrete repairs identified on concrete surface, the information shall be
conveyed to Consultant and agree limits of the damaged areas of concrete and category
of repair to be used. A separate method statement shall be submitted for the same.
Hot Weather Concreting:
• Thermometers will be provided on site to monitor ambient air shade temperature at the
concrete station.
• Maximum temperature of concrete at the point of placing shall be less than 32°C.
Concrete shall not be placed if the shade temperature exceeds 40˚C.
• Hot weather concreting shall refer & comply with QCS2014 Section 5 Part 15.
9 Quality Control & Quality Assurance

• Ensure that latest approved shop drawings and latest relevant documents are being
utilized.
• Ensure that only approved materials and passing the required testing are being used on
site.
• Periodic check of works to ensure the work is accomplished according to Quality
Procedures.
• All instruments are having valid calibration certificates.
10. Health Safety & Environment
• HSE induction courses shall be provided to all personnel prior to site attendance.
• All manpower to use the required PPE during execution of all the works.
• Regular tool box meeting shall be conducted to explain the nature of works and associated
risks.
