Parallel operation of single phase Transformers

Byparallel operation, two or more transformers are

connected to the same supply bus bars on the primary
side and to a common bus bar/load on the secondary
side.
Such requirement is frequently encountered in practice.
It is economical to install numbers of smaller rated
transformers in parallel than installing a bigger rated
transformer.
The reasons that necessitate parallel operation:
• Non-availability of a single large transformer.
• The power demand might have increased over a time
• To ensure improved reliability.
• To reduce the spare capacity.
• When transportation problems 1

Conditions for parallel connection of transformers:
• The voltage ratio must be the same.
• The percentage impedance of each machine on its
own base must be the same.
• The polarity must be the same.
• The phase sequence must be the same

Pulse transformer
The conventional transformer cannot couple a square wave
or a pulse from primary to secondary. For this, a special
transformer called pulse transformer is designed to couple
this without changing the shape of pulse. Pulse
transformers are used for coupling pulses from a lower
digital circuit to a high power SCR maintaining the
isolation between them. The use of such transformer is
quite common in radar, television, digital computer, etc.

Audio frequency transformer
These are used for frequency range from
20Hz to 20Kz and used in electronic circuit
for stepping up the voltage or impedance
matching .these are small in size and have
iron cores.
