SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

SUBJECT MATHEMATICS TIME

GRADE LEVEL 9 DATE

CONTENT STANDARD The learner will demonstrates understanding of key concepts of

quadratic equations, inequalities and functions, and rational
algebraic equations.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD The learner will be able to investigate thoroughly mathematical

relationships in various situations, formulate reallife problems
involving quadratic equations, inequalities and functions, and
rational algebraic equations and solve them using a variety of
strategies.

LEARNING COMPETENCY Illustrates quadratic equations.

I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
K. Determine the equation if it is a quadratic or not,
S. Transform the given equation to standard form of Quadratic
equation,
A. Appreciate the concept of Quadratic Equation byapplying it in real
life situation.

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

b.1 Classroom Management

The teacher will discuss the classroom rules.

b.2 Review

The teacher will review the previous lesson.

C. MOTIVATION

D. PRE-ACTIVITY

The teacher presents the activity before introducing the lesson

Instruction: Below are examples of linear and quadratic equations. Write LE if the equation is linear and QE if it is
quadratic on the space provided before the number.

1. c = 12n - 5

2. 9r ² - 25 = 0

3. x² - 5x + 3 = 0

4. 2s + 3 = - 7

5. 4m²+ 4m + 1 = 0

E. PRESENTATION

The teacher introduces the lesson "Illustrations of Quadratic Equations".

F. ABSTRACTION

A Quadratic Equation in one variable is a mathematical sentence of degree 2 that can bewritten in the following standard
form: ax² + bx + c = 0 where a, b and care real numbers and a ≠ 0 . In the equation, ax² is the quadratic term, bx is the
linear term and c is the constant term.

TWO KINDS OF QUADRATIC EQUATIONS

 Complete Quadratic Equation

Examples :
2 2
x − 4 x +1=0 and 3 x + 2 x −1=0

 Incomplete Quadratic Equation

Examples :
2 2 2
2 x + 9=0 2 x =0 4 x −8=0
2 2 2
x − 9 x=0 x − 4=0 x + 7 x=0
The teacher will ask the students,

“The teacher will give another examples of Quadratic Equations and Not Quadratic Equations.”

“TRANSFORMING QUADRATIC EQUATIONS IN SATNDARD FORM AND IDENTFYING THE VALUES OF a,

b, and c .

Standard Form
2
ax +bx +c=0

Where a, b, and c are real numbers and a≠ 0.

Example : Identify the values of a, b, and c in the quadratic equation 8 x 2+ 14 x − 17=0 .

a=8 , b=14, c=-17

The teacher will give another example.

G. ANALYSIS

The teacher asks questions.

1. How to determine a quadratic equation?

 A quadratic equation is a mathematical sentence of degree of 2.

2. What is the standard form of a quadratic equation?

 ax²+ bx + c = 0 where a, b and care real numbers and a ≠ 0

H. GENERALIZATION

The teacher summarizes the lesson by asking questions.

1. What is a quadratic equation?

-A Quadratic Equation in one variable is a mathematical sentence ofdegree 2 that can be written in the standard form: ax²
+ bx + c = 0 where a, b and care real numbers and a ≠ 0.

2. How to write a quadratic equation in standard form given the values of a, b and c?

- In writing the equation given the values of a, b and c, substitute the given values of a, b and c in the standard form of
quadratic equation ax² + bx + c = 0

3. How to write a quadratic equation given two linear equation being multiplied to each other?

-In writing an equation given two linear equations being multiplied toeach other, expand the product and make one side
of the equation zero.

I. APPLICATION

The teacher will relate the concept of a “Quadratic Equations on rea-life situation.”

Problem:

Our company is going to make frames as part of a new product they are launching.

The frame will be cut out of a piece of steel, and to keep the weight down, the final area should be 28 cm2

The inside of the frame has to be 11 cm by 6 cm

What should the width x of the metal be?

J. ASSESSMENT

The teacher will post the test on the board.

Instruction: Write each equation in standard form ax² + bx + c = 0 the identify the values of a, b and c.

1. 3x - 2x² = 7
2. (x - 7)(x + 7) = 3x
3. (y + 3)(y + 5) = 0
4. 5 + 2z² = 6z
5. 2x (x - 3) = 15
6. 5w (7w - 2) = 10w + 1
7. 4y - 3y (y) = 9
8. 99 = 3(k² - 7)
9. a + 2a² - 19 = - 5a²
10. 25k - 17 = 29k² - 17

K. ASSIGNMENT

The teacher posts the assignment on the board.

"Give 5 examples of quadratic equations and identify the values of a, b and c.
