-The science of obtaining reliable measurements by means of images

for the determination of the geometric properties of objects.

-An image refers to any pictorial representation, regardless of what
wavelengths or remote sensing device has been used to detect and
record the electromagnetic energy. A photograph refers specifically
to images that have been detected as well as recorded on
photographic film.
-Photogrammetry gathers measurements and data about an object
by analyzing the change in position from two different images. It uses
things like perspective, advanced processing software and photo
analysis to get the job done, but it can happen on the ground or from
the ai r. I n th i s g u i d e , we ’ l l ex p l a i n t h e d i ffe re nt t y p e s o f
photogrammetry and how it can be used

photogrammetry
-It deals with photographs taken with
cameras located on the surface of the earth
-The cameras may be handheld, mounted
on tripods, or suspended from towers or
otherspecially designed mounts
-Aerial photography is the taking of photographs from an aircraft or other
airborne platforms. When taking motion pictures, it is also known as
aerial videography
-Aerial photogrammetry is a technique for creating two dimensional (2D)
or three dimensional (3D) models from aerial photographs, which are
pictures of the Earth from a high point, usually an airplane. These
photographs are then turned into the models by cartographers
-Space photogrammetry , a relatively new branch, refers to all aspects of
extraterrestrial photography, whether the camera is fixed on earth,
placed on the moon or a planet, or contained in an artificial satellite.
-The term close-range photogrammetry is generally used for
terrestrial photographs having object distances up to about 300 m
-With terrestrial photography the cameras are usually accessible,
so that directmeasurements can be made to obtain exposure
station positions, similar to airborne GPScontrol with aerial
photography
-The term clo-With some terrestrial cameras, angular
orientation can also be measured or set to fixedvalues, so
that all elements of exterior orientation of a terrestrial
photo are commonlyknown and need not be calculated
-These known exterior orientation parameters are a source
of control for terrestrial photos, replacing in whole or in
part the necessity for locating control points in the object
space
-Analogue Photogrammetry is a branch of photogrammetry which starts
with conventional photographs and in which the processing is by means
of optical-mechanical instruments is called analogue photogrammetry.
-Analog photogrammetry models the imaging processing by mechanical,
electrical or optical analogons. Typical manifestations are the many
widely used stereo-plotting instruments that convert a pair of
photographs into a map manuscript
Stereoplotter is an instrument that projects a
stereoscopic image from aerial photographs, converts
the locations of objects and landforms on the image to
x-, y-, and z-coordinates, and plots these coordinates
as a drawing or map.
Analytical photogrammetry is a term used to describe the
rigorous mathematical calculation of coordinates of points in
object space based upon camera parameters, measured photo
coordinates, and ground control. Unlike the elementary
methods presented in earlier chapters, this process rigorously
accounts for any tilts…

• Group yourselves according to your number
• Each group should elect a leader
• Each group will be provided with the
following:
– 1 sheet manila paper
– 1 marker/
• Workshop activity instructions (see next slide)
• After each workshop, the leader will present
the group‟s output
