Worksheet 6.3-A
Worksheet 6.3-A
Objective:
Students will be able to:
1) Solve simultaneous linear equations in two variables using the graphical method.
1. Draw each of the lines with the following equations in the graph.
2. On a sheet of graph paper and using the graphical method, solve each of the following pairs of
simultaneous equations.
a) y= 3x+ 1 c) y = x + 2
y = 2x y = -2x + 2
b) y = 2x - 1 d) 3x – y = 7
y=x 2x + 5y = -1
3. The variables 𝑥 and 𝑦 are connected by the equation 𝑦−2𝑥=4. Some of the values of 𝑥 and
corresponding values of 𝑦 are given in the table.
a) Find the value of 𝑎 and 𝑏.
x -6 0 4
y a 4 b
b) On a sheet of graph paper, using a scale of 1 cm to represent 1 unit on both axes, draw the
graph of 𝑦−2𝑥=4 for −6≤𝑥≤4.
(c) The point (ℎ, ℎ) lies on the graph in (b). Find the value of ℎ.
(d) On the same axes in (b), draw the graph of 𝑥=3.
(e) Find the area of the triangle bounded by the lines 𝒚−𝟐𝒙=𝟒, 𝒙=𝟑 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒙−𝒂𝒙𝒊𝒔.
