Assessment Guidance:

You are expected to carry out an organisational analysis on a multinational company

of your choice. While we do not limit the choice of your company to any sector or
country, we encourage you to choose an organisation for which you are confident you
will have access to enough data to complete the assessment. Tutors will be available
to discuss with you, during the tutorials as part of formative tasks, your selection. Use
the databases mentioned in the module to acquire information about the chosen
company. The organisational report should consist of the sections below. The word
count is a recommendation, but we encourage you to follow it as much as possible.
The word count excludes tables, graphs and figures and the mandatory appendix.
Introduction. Introduce the company of your choice, its activities, organisational
structure and industry. [400 words]
Financial performance. Present the main financial performance indicators of the
chosen firm. Show in your submission how you calculate them but calculations are part
of the Appendix. Use this section to only explain the relevance of the financial measure
– be critical. [300 words]
Competitive position. Considering the main characteristics of the industry of the
chosen company, as well as its performance when compared against competitors,
present an assessment of the relative position of the chosen firm. You are required to
do a Porter’s 5 forces analysis that needs to be shown in the appendix. You are
required to however reference the 5 Forces while discussing this section. Do not
expand on the 5 forces in this section, rather do this in the Appendix. [500 words]
Non-financial performance. Considering relevant sources of information discuss the
performance of the chosen firm as measured through non-financial indicators.
Consider for example ESG aspects, the achievements of social objectives and the
satisfaction of different stakeholders (customers, employees, local communities,…).

Conclusion. Provide an overall assessment of the performance of the organisation.
Identify trends and patterns developing over time and recommend actions to
consolidate or strengthen the effectiveness of the organisation. [500 words]

8.1 Formative assessments: Students will be given opportunities to work every week
during the seminar on their assessment. Students are strongly recommended to work
on their chosen organisation to calculate the measures and to obtain feedback from
the tutors. Please note, no feedback will be provided by the tutors outside of this
schedule.
