EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN LOGISTICS AND

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

INDOOR ROBOTIC TRANSPORT
◦ Collaborative robots are innovations that can improve working
environments and assist supply chain workers.
◦ Robots are quickly making their way into the logistics and
transportation sector.
◦ They’re providing safety, efficiency and accuracy in a wide variety of
applications, mostly involving work in the distribution center.
◦ There are many exciting robotic technologies in logistics, but
collaborative robots have been particularly effective.
WEARABLE DEVICES
Wearable technology such as glasses and ring scanners are being used
commercially in many warehouses around the world. Industrial
wearables are products that can be fitted on human body with ease and
through which real time information can be obtained or tracked. These
wearables comprise various sensors, controllers, and monitoring
platform, which track data and store it on cloud.

ROBOT-ASSISTED PICKING
Automated warehouse picking is the implementation of robotic or semi-
robotic technologies that enhance the work of human pickers. Robot
can be used for standard pick and place applications where objects are
picked up and moved to other locations in a single plane. Warehouse
automation robotics could also improve supply chain visibility by
automating inventory processes.
SMART SUPPLY CHAINS
Smart Supply Chains Powered by the Internet of Things, mobile private
networks and 5G allow businesses to automatically reschedule and reroute
shipments in response to a delay while simultaneously updating customers
with new delivery information.

SUPPLY CHAIN VISIBILITY TECH

Supply chain visibility technology can optimize shipment logistics while
reducing the risk of lost, stolen or damaged cargo in transit. Unifying data
insights from tractors, trailers and cargo using cloud and edge computing
technology allows companies to track inventory, maximize trailer usage and
view insights on asset movement to expedite the flow of goods from the
manufacturer to the consumer.
Predictive Maintenance Tech:
By utilizing this software, organizations can reduce their downtime by
proactively identifying equipment repairs and the product quality. This also
helps companies move toward a scheduled maintenance program versus
engaging in reactive maintenance and reduce their carbon footprint, and it
encourages a safe, quality environment for employees.

3D Printing:
3D printing technology enables companies to design and produce new
customised products to meet the end user’s growing needs for
personalization. Consumers have become accustomed to being able to
demand products with variatons that were not previously available.
Digital Twins:
A digital twin is a digital replica of a physical supply chain. It helps organizations
recreate their real supply chain in a virtual world so they can test scenarios, model
different nodes, modes, flows, and policies and understand how decisions and
disruptions will impact network operations.

Real-Time Shipping Status Software:

To keep their supply chains running smoothly, companies need vastly more granular,
real-time information about the flow of shipments where they are, why they are
delayed and what can be done about it. New software technology is coming online
that can track an individual shipment among millions, instantly update its status and
immediately notify logistics managers when problems arise.
Blockchain:
Blockchain technology is likely to make real improvements in supply chain
management. Distributed ledger technology can bring transparency and
visibility to supply chains by improving the security and traceability of products.
The technology generates an immutable transaction record, making it possible to
track good provenance and cultivate trust through shared supply chain
information.
