Mode: Select proper image mode for the scanned image. Choice: Auto Color
Detection, Color, Gray, and Black and White.
Auto Color Click to automatically detect and scan your color document in color
Detection image mode. If your document is in colors, the scanner will
automatically scan the document into a color image. If your document
is non-color, the scanner will scan your document in Black and White
mode. This option is useful when you have a mixture of color and
non-color document.
Color Choose Color to scan color photographs or color documents. Color scan
produces the largest file size.
Gray Choose Gray to scan documents containing drawings or black and white
photographs. This scanning produces an image of up to 256 shades of
gray.
Black and Choose Black and White to scan document containing purely text,
White pencil, or ink sketch. This scan mode produces the smallest file size.
Resolution:
The resolution is measured in pixels per inch (ppi) (sometimes referred to as dots per
inch or dpi). Higher resolutions result in more detail in the scan, slower scanning and in
general, greater file sizes. For example, an A4 size color image scanned at 300 dpi with
color mode consumes approximately 25 MB of disk space. When OCR (Optical
Character Recognition) is to be performed on a scan, 300dpi should be used for most
languages except Asian languages. For Asian languages, 400 dpi is recommended.
Move the slider to choose your ideal resolution. The default value is 200 dpi. Available
resolutions are 100, 150, 200,300, 400 and 600. (Options vary based on type of
scanner.)
Paper Size:
Choose your ideal scan size. Choice: Auto Crop and Deskew, Scanner Maximum, US

JIS B7 – 9.1 x 12.8 cm. Note: The options vary due to type of scanner.
Auto Crop and Deskew: Automatically adjusts the cropping window according to
different document sizes and automatically straighten a skew image. Use this option for
batches of mixed-sized documents.
Duplex:
Choose “Duplex” to scan both the front and rear side of your document. Before
choosing “Duplex”, make sure you have purchased a duplex scanner first.
Use TWAIN:
Click to scan based on the scanner’s TWAIN user interface. Click “Setup” to prompt
the scanner’s TWAIN user interface for more advanced scan settings.
Directory:
Enter the path or click “Browse” to select the path for your scanned image. Default:
C:\Document and Settings\xxxx(login name)\My Documents\My Pictures\xxx(scanner
model)\Button# (C represents your system drive.)
File Name:
A joint name of the text string (default: scan) and a numeric suffix is the file name of
your scanned image. This suffix is automatically generated to make file names unique,
for example, scan0001. You may change the default string by entering your text on the
default file name “Image####”.
Or you may add date or time to current file name by choosing the “More” option.
Choice includes Date, Time, Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, Second, Day of
Week, Barcode (TWAIN support). The Date is indicated in the format of YYYYMMDD
(year, month, and date). The Time is indicated in the format of HHMMSS (hour, minute,
second). For example, if you choose date and time, the file name will be displayed like
Image_000720110308175239.pdf (20110308 indicates date while 175239 indicates
time.)

File Format:
The file format that you have selected determined the file format for the scanned image
of your document.
Choose your ideal file format for the specific button number. Choice includes BMP,
PNG, GIF, JPEG, Single-Page PDF, Multi-Page PDF, Multi-TIFF, TIFF, RTF, TXT,
OCR(for iScan only), XPS, DOC, XLS, PPT, DOCS, XLSX, PPTX, HTML.
BMP:
BMP is the standard Windows image format on DOS and Windows-compatible
computers. The BMP format supports RGB, indexed-color, grayscale, and Bitmap color
modes.
GIF:
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) format was created mainly for Internet uses,
mainly for its small file size. It's good for fast-loading web pages only. Nowadays Gif is
widely used on the World Wide Web, both for still images and for animations. GIF
displays a maximum of 256 colors, which makes it unsuitable for pictures with
continuous colors. Its application is best for color clip art, black-and-white line
drawings, or images with large blocks of solid colors.
PNG:
PNG (Portable Network Graphic) is also a bitmap of indexed colors under a lossless
compression, but without copyright limitations; commonly used to store graphics for
Web images. PNG is superior to GIF in that it has better compression and supports
millions of colors. PNG files end in a .png suffix.
TIFF:
TIFF (The Tagged-Image File Format) is a flexible bitmap image format supported by
virtually all paint, image-editing, and page-layout applications. Also, virtually all
desktop scanners can produce TIFF images. To compress your file size, click the
“Properties” button. Move the slider to the right or to the left to increase or decrease
the level of compression. Note the greater the compression level, the lower image
quality.
Multi-TIFF:
Multi-TIFF combines all the scanned images into a single TIFF file.
JPEG:
JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) compression provides the best results with
continuous-tone color and the smallest file size. To compress your file size, click the
“Properties” button. Move the slider to the right or to the left to increase or decrease
the level of compression. Note the greater the compression level, the lower image
quality.
Multi-Page PDF:
Multi-PDF combines all the scanned images into a single PDF file.
Mote: You may create a searchable PDF file format by clicking the Properties button and
then select your OCR language.
RTF:
RTF (Rich Text Format) is a document file format developed by Microsoft for
cross-platform document interchange. Most word processors including Microsoft
WordPad or Notepad can read and write RTF files.
TXT:
The TXT file format, ending in “.txt”, is a file format that is in plain text. Plain texts,
or .txt files, are recognized by all word processors and text editors.
If you wish to convert your scanned image to editable text, you can choose the file
format to be RTF. TXT, or other text file format used by Microsoft and select your OCR
language to convert the scanned image to editable text.
Note:
HTML file format is available only when you select destination as “Archive”.
The following table gives you an idea of file size v.s. file format
OCR Language:
Choose your OCR language. With the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) engine
which supports over a hundred of languages, your electronic documents can be
searched and managed more effectively.
Scan Count:
Display your total scan count.
Destination:
Choose your destination to send your scanned image to.
Choice: iScan(Image), iScan(OCR), Scan to App, E-mail (your default e-mail software),
Printer (your default printer), Shared Folder, FTP, SharePoint, Google Drive, Facebook,
Evernote, Dropbox, OneDrive.
Note:
To upload your images to the destinations on the network: Please note there may be
some destinations included in the Button Manager V2 software application yet they
may not be mentioned in this documentation. However, the steps to upload your
images to the destination are similar – you need to first setup your login name and
password to the destinations. You may contact your network administrator to get a
valid user name and password or you may refer to the subsequent section 4.9 -
Setting up Button Manager to Send Your Images to FTP on how to setup the login
name and password.
Setup:
To upload your scanned image to a network file server, be sure to choose “Setup” and
enter your account information. For example, to upload image to Google Drive, you
need to sign up for an account at Google’s web site.
The Image Adjustment tab allows you to adjust the color quality of the image so that
it comes close to the original.
Gamma
Adjusts the midtones of the image without dramatically altering then lightest and the
darkest areas.
Color Dropout tab allows you to filter out a color channel (red, green, or blue). For
example, if you are scanning a document with a red watermark, you can choose to filter
out the red channel so the scanned image just shows the text and not the red
watermark. Removing colors from the scan might reduce the scan file size and improve
optical character recognition (OCR) result.
Note:
Color dropout only applies to gray and black and white scans.
You may specify the color to be removed by entering the RGB (Red, Blue and Green)
value respectively. Click the Clear button to reset your color.
You may try the following way to select your color effectively.
3. After the scan is done, drag and drop your scanned image to Button Manager.
2. Check “Use a Magnifier” and choose your specific color on the scanned image. The
RGB value for the color will be displayed.
Multi-Feed Detection
Multi-Feed Detection allows you to detect overlapped document that go through the
auto document feeder. Multi-Feed usually occurs due to stapled documents,
adhesives on documents, or electro-statically charged document. Note: The
availability of the function varies based on type of scanner.
Length Detection
Length Detection allows you to define the length of document being multi-fed. This
value indicates the additional length exceeding your scan area. The Display window will
show the size of the document as you change the value. A value of 0 indicates no
additional length detection. The Length Detection is best used when scanning
same-size documents in the auto document feeder.
Ultrasonic Detection
Ultrasonic Detection allows you to set overlapped document by detecting paper
thickness between documents. Note: The availability of the function varies based on
type of scanner.
Action:
1. Follow the instruction on the Warning dialog box to remove the rest pages on
the feeder.
2. Click OK to close the Warning dialog box.
3. Scan the rest pages.
Multi-Feed Alarm
If a wave file is added, the scanner will make a sound alarm if multi-feed is
detected yet no Warning dialog box will be displayed.
If “Stop Scanning after Multi-Feed” is selected, the scanner will stop the
feeder.
If “Stop Scanning after Multi-Feed” has not been selected, the scanner will
continue to scan till the end of your document.
Action:
1. If “Stop Scanning after Multi-Feed” is selected, follow the action described
in the preceding section “Stop Scanning after Multi-Feed” to complete your
job.
