Elements of a Story
Background Information:
Do you love listening to a story? Do you understand the story you
listened to? The elements of a story will lead you to a deeper
understanding and comprehension of the story you heard.
In this activity sheet, you will learn the four elements of a story
(theme, setting, characters, and events). Exercises and activities will be
given to enhance your knowledge and skills on how to identify the
elements of a story.
The following are the three elements of the story.
Characters-these are the persons, Setting-the place and time in
animals and creatures in the story. which the story takes place.

ELA AND THE MAGIC BASKETS

This is Ela. She is excited for a vacation to her Nana’s farm.

“What are the gifts my Nana promised?” Ela asked herself.
Until, her eyes started to close slowly and finally, had a nap.
“Ela I am your Nana, these are my gifts for you, “The Magic
Baskets,” the old woman said.
When Ela opened the first magic basket, a strong wind blew
and a witch came out.
“Ela, you are in a place named Tot Decay, the place where
you can eat baskets of candies and chichiria.”
While eating candies and chichiria, Ela fell down in a place
with nothing but black sharp teeth and her look-alike fat girl.
“Help! Help! Help! Have pity on me! My teeth are aching and
I cannot stand alone,” the fat girl cried.
“Open the next magic basket Ela,” her Nana said.
When Ela opened the next magic basket, a strong wind blew
and a lovely fairy came out.
“Ela, you are in a place named Cure Ela, where you can eat
baskets of fruits and veggies.
“Come Ela let us pick fruits and veggies,” the fairy said.
“Now Ela, you can get and bring home the magic basket you
like, “the fairy said.
“Goodbye Ela, you can go home now and leave me the
magic basket you dislike,” the witch said.
“It’s time to wake up Ela. We will go to Nana’s farm,” her
mother said.
“Mother, I promise to obey Nana. I will stop eating candies
and chips. I will eat more fruits and veggies,” Ela said.
