Curriculum-Framing Questions
Essential Questions
How would the world look like without any standards?
Unit Questions
What does it mean to measure?
Why are measurements important?
How can measurement help build your playhouse?
Content Questions
What is measurement?
How did our ancestors measure objects?
What are the wo systems of measurement?
What are the tools used in measuring length, weight, time, and temperature?
What are the equations used in perimeter, area, and surface area?
Unit Summary
In this Unit, the students will be learning the concepts of measurement like measuring length,
weight, time, temperature, and capacity. They will also convert measurements in one unit to
another in the Metric and English systems of measurement. The key activities will be measuring,
converting measurement of objects, and formulating their own worded problems. As a result of
this Unit, the students will assume the role of an architect to design a playhouse.
Learning will not be fun if there is no spice. Technology is one of those, indeed. Some of the
activities are completing Venn diagrams a measurement charts using the Microsoft word. Some
of the quizzes will be answered through the use of Google forms. Their final output (playhouse)
Student Objectives/Learning Outcomes
Day 1:
Through the use of body parts and measuring tools, the students should able to:
a. differentiate the English system and the Metric system or measurement;
D. determine the importance of having standard measuring tools, and
C. demonstrate how to use measuring tools properly and accurately.
Day 2:
Through measuring different objects using the English system and SI
systems of units, the students should be able to:
a. distinguish the process of converting an SI system of unit to an English system of unit, and
vice versa
b. distinguish the process of converting an SI system of unit to another SI system of unit and
from an English system of unit to another English system of unit; and
C. measure objects skillfully.
Day 3:
Through activities on computing capacity or volume, the students should be able to:
a. determine the different units of capacity measure;
b. listen to other 1deas in computing word problems; and
C. complete a chart in order to organize data.
Day 4:
Through measuring objects using a weighing scale, the students should be able to:
a. convert mass units of measure from one unit to another,
b. participate actively in group activity; and
C. use correctly the instrument in measuring mass.
Day 5:
Through measuring polygons, the students should be able to:
a. solve for the perimeter of objects;
D. compute for the circumference of objects; and
C. demonstrate skills in using a measuring device.
