IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction The teacher facilitates a game titled, Mystery Box! with the following
mechanics:

1. The teacher brings a Mystery Box filled with different surprising


items.
2. Volunteers among the students will be called to get anything from
the box.
3. As the volunteers have the items, they will be asked to answer the
questions attached to the items they got.
4. Responses from the volunteers will be generated.
5. From the given responses, an introduction of the topic will be
done.

B. Development The teacher leads the lecture-discussion on the following topics:

a. Literary critique
b. Definition of a Critique (Critical Analysis)
 A technique that aims to study, discuss, evaluate, and interpret
a literary work
c. Forms of a Critique (Critical Analysis)
 A critical essay
 An article evaluating a literary piece
 A review
d. Reasons for writing a Critique (Critical Analysis)
 To know its overall value
 To determine its strengths and weaknesses
e. Parts of a Critique (Critical Analysis)
 Introduction
 State the title of the work and the author’s name
 Outline the main ideas and identify the author’s thesis
 State your thesis and your main idea about the work
 Summary
 Summarize the text in your own words
 Analysis
 State what you like and do not like about the text
 Interpret and evaluate the text based on:
 How the text is organized
 The style and the rhetoric
 How effective the message is
 Whether or not the author did justice to the
message
 How the text appealed to its large audience

 Restate your thesis in new words
 Summarize your main ideas, if possible, with new and
stronger words

C. Engagement Group Activity

Students will be encouraged to engage in the following tasks


a. Students will be grouped into three.
b. Students will watch the video of The Necklace by Henri Rene
Albert Guy de Maupassant.
c. Every group member will be encouraged to participate in
discussing and analyzing the story based on the concepts and
strategies of a literary critique.
d. Students will make a literary critique of The Necklace and will
present their outputs in front of the class.
e. Use of visual aids while reporting is encouraged; use of English
language is advised.
f. Students will be given time to prepare for their report.
Collaboration and cooperation among group members are
encouraged.
g. Criteria for the evaluation of the performances will be agreed
upon by the teacher and the students.
Example:

h. Two other groups will rate the presenters according to the criteria.
i. Scores will be revealed after the presentations.
j. The teacher comments on the presentations of each group.
k. The teacher presents a sample critique.

D. Assimilation Group Activity:

a. Students will be grouped with five members.


b. The leader of the group will pick a paper that indicates the task
that they have to perform.
c. After three minutes, each group will perform their task.

Tasks:

TLE If you were Mathilde, what menu would you


like to cook for your husband after his long and
tiresome day at work? As you cook the
imaginary dish, mention all the ingredients and
its procedure. Keep in mind that you cook for
someone you love.
Music Render a Rock Song that you think exemplifies
the emotional struggle experienced by Mathilde
in the story.
Science Recall the nine planets in the solar system.
And Identify the characters in the story The Necklace
Mathematics and assign each of them the names of the nine
planets and a strip of paper with a certain
number; the protagonist as the sun holds a
number on his right hand and a mathematical
operation on the left. Like the solar system, the
characters revolve around the protagonist but
stop as the music halts for a while. The
planet/character who faces the sun/protagonist
answers the mathematical operation suggested
by the strips of paper both of them are holding.
