Community Service (D1UA424L)

Semester: IV Credit: 03 Timeline: Semester IV

Execution: 10 Days (Non-working days) Team: Individual/ Group (max. 5)

Course Status: Essential Learning Status: Continuous

Course Objective

Gain in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the areas of leadership, communications,
group dynamics, human resources and policy-making within community settings–from the
local to the national level.

With this course, students can educate communities on healthy eating and living, lead public
organizations committed to providing better social programs or manage employees working to
institute legislative changes at the community level. This will also help in preparing students
for many community-focused careers in organizational leadership, human resources, social
services, public health services and more.

Learning Outcomes

 Students will be able to understand the inner workings of community-focused


Nonprofits, NGOs and other agencies and private organizations.

• Students will be able to gain knowledge in fiscal management, cultural diversity,


leadership, and the social, economic and environmental issues faced by all types of
communities.

• Students will be able to develop the knowledge and skills to work in roles involved in
the managing, coordinating and delivering of services to individuals, groups and
communities.

• Students will be able to gain core skills in areas of service programs, workplace
communication strategies, impact of sociological factors on individuals.

• Recognize the socio-economic conditions of the urban/rural poor and the importance
of urbanization.
Students to visit NGO and understand the working of the NGO, their characteristics, financial
model.

Working:

- The student has to visit the NGO during non-academic days and work as Volunteer
for minimum 10 days in whole semester.

- GPS MAP camera or similar App, to be used to take picture on every visit, on arrival
and departure.

- Every visit to be updated by the Student to the PC Team and Mentor.

- Study various programs / projects being undertaken in association / support of other


NGOs and agencies.

Execution

• To execute the Community Service Learning, the students would be divided into groups
of 5 students.

• The students will have to identify a reputed NGO that has established itself at regional
/national / international level.

• The students need to prepare a report to be submitted at the end of the semester for
assessment.

• There will be 3 reviews of progress.

Time Line for Community service

• Project starts from 23 March 2024

• First review of the Community service will be on 10th April 2024

• Second review of the Community service will be on 10th May 2024

• Final Presentation and Viva will be on 2nd June 2024

Format of the report

1. Profile of NGO
2. Introduction of the activity carried by the student in NGO or outside the NGO

3. Proof (Geotag pictures) of the activity in which student is involved

4. Learning during the activities

5. How various stakeholders are benefitted by your contribution to community.

6. Annexures if any, used during your community service project

7. Certificate of community service project from NGO or any other organization


where student have served community.

8. Feedback form.
