講義概要/Course description
This course has two main activities. Firstly, you will read widely on a range of topics, discuss what you learn in pairs and small groups, and give presentations on the
topics that interest you the most. Secondly, you will have the chance to improve your reading skills and build your English vocabulary by challenging yourself to reach
a high level on the IELTS reading test. This is the test that many universities in English speaking countries use to assess the English level of applicants.

iv/ To improve your ability to discuss and present ideas in spoken English.

事前学習/ All students should read at least one article on the General Topic each week. Students will take turns to present a topic and lead a discussion and will
Preparation need to prepare for this ahead of their scheduled class day.
事後学習/
Reviewing It is recommended that you review the reading skills after each class. You should also add to your vocabulary notebook on a weekly basis.

補足事項/ Reading skills such as skimming, scanning, understanding vocabulary in context etc. will be taught. The focus of this part of the class
実施形態/ Supplementary will be getting the best possible score on the IELTS test and there will be a full reading test at the start and end of the semester.

notes A new general topic area will be introduced every two or three weeks and students will be able to choose their own homework
readings related to these topic areas. From the start, students will have the chance to work autonomously, directing their own
reading, leading discussions and giving short presentations. There will be two longer, graded presentations in the semester.

There is no set text for this class. Handouts will be given when needed.
