THIS GUIDE COVERS WHITE OIL CARGOES IN COATED TANKS.


AND BLACK OIL / CRUDE CARGOES IN EITHER COATED OR UNCOATED TANKS.
P Tanks to be purged to below 2% Hydrocarbon by volume
No washing required - strip and drain wel Non IG Vessels should be 'Gas Free'
Refer Notes: 1 & 2 M Tanks to be mopped or educted DRY

X If ROB is less than 0.1%, and purging (if required) is effective


Wash tanks with COLD sea water until tank is clean cargo may be loaded directly on top without washing

Tanks that have been washed for the carriage of these


Wash tanks with HOT sea water until tank is clean. products must have a final wash with fresh water.
Refer Notes 1, 2 & 3 Tank and lines are then to be blown and drained free of water

To ensure minimum grade to grade admixture, tanks to be


Product NOT to be loaded unless specific instructions LUB stripped dry, pump column and deck lines to be blown and
have been issued by BP Head Office drained. Tanks to be visually inspected to ensure min ROB

Notes: 1. Tanks to be stripped dry such that any liquid ROB is confined to the pump well - or better
2. Pump columns, deck lines, drops etc are to be blown clear and drained free of all product and wate
3. Deck lines, loading drops and cross over lines must be thoroughly washed and drained
4. MTBE/Methanol/Ethanol (oxygenates) Are water miscible, introduction of water into designated tanks should be avoided

Code Cleaning Instructions

1 Tanks to be well drained


2 Flush tank bottoms with sea water and drain well
3 Flush tank bottoms with sea water, drain well and gas free to 40% of lower explosive limit
4 Flush tank bottoms, gas free, lift scale and mop up. When loading lub.oil or naphthenic distillate extra care is required, when
draining pipelines, by also draining values and pumps
5 Cold machine wash tanks for about 4 hrs (2 hrs on vessels with painted tanks). When loading white oil, lub.oil or naphthenic distillate
complete code 5 and then follow code 4
6 Cleaning as for cleaning code 5 but use a hot machine wash
7 Refer lub. Oil cleaning table

Code Cleaning Instructions
Not to be loaded without special cleaning instructions
Aviation grades can be carried after such cargoes if it can be established that a mercaptan level of 100 ppm and an H2S level of
10 ppm were not exceeded. In such cass the alternative cleaning code indicated in the table will apply
1 Tanks to be well drained
