Lesson Plan

The document provides a lesson plan on measures of central tendency including mean, median, and mode. It defines these terms and provides examples of calculating each from statistical data. Students will solve practice problems to reinforce understanding of finding and interpreting mean, median, and mode.

I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the discussion, the student will be able to:
1. Define mean, median and mode;
2. Find the mean, median and mode of a statistical
data; and
3. Describe the data in terms of the mean, median,
and mode.
A. Content Standards Demonstrates understanding of key concepts, uses and
importance of Statistics, data collection/gathering and the
different forms of data presentation, measures of central
tendency, measures of variability and probability..
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to collect and organize data
systematically and compute accurately measures of central
tendency and variability and apply these appropriately in
data analysis and interpretation in different field
C. Most Essential Learning Calculates the measures of central tendency for ungrouped

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction Prayer and Checking of Attendance
 The teacher will ask a student to lead the prayer.
 The secretary of the section will be asked by the
teacher about the attendance.

Ice Breaker: HELLO, MR. DETECTIVE

 The teacher will present a PowerPoint Slide where
there are alphanumeric codes. The student. Players
who will be able to successfully answer the question
will be given (2) two points that will be used as an
additional point to their scores on the assessment.

2. 13 – 5 – 4 – 9 – 1 – 14 = MEDIAN
3. 13 - 15 – 4 – 5 = MODE
4. 19 – 21 – 13 = SUM

6. 13 – 9 – 4 – 4 – 12 – 5 = MIDDLE

B. Development Start of the discussion:

 The teacher will share his/her screen and show his
prepared PowerPoint Presentation to the class.
 The objectives for the lesson will first present to the
class.
Let us know:
 The definition of Measures of Central Tendency will
be presented.
3 M’s of Measures of Central Tendency
I. Mean – The mean is the sum of a set of values,
divided by the number of values in the set.
∑x
Formula: x̄=
n
where, x̄ = mean
∑x = sum of all scores
n = number of scores
Example:
80, 80, 83, 84, 85
80+80+ 83+84+ 85
x̄=
5
412
x̄=
5
x̄=82.4
II. Median - The median is midpoint of the array. The
median will be either a specific value or will fall
between two values. Median is represented by Md
If the number of scores is an even number, it will fall
in specific value. But, If the number of scores is an
odd number, it will fall between two values.
Example:
The math grades of ten students are 85, 88,
80, 83, 87, 89, 84, 80, 94, and 90.

Arrange first the data in increasing order that is

from the least value to greatest value or vice-versa
80, 80, 83, 84, 85, 87, 88, 89, 90, 94

85+ 87
Md=
2
Md=86

III. Mode – referred to as the most frequently occurring

value in a given set of data. A data set may have
none or many modes.
Unimodal – set of data with only one mode
Bimodal – set of data with two modes
Multimodal – set of data with more than two modes
Example:
The number of students of 15 sections
selected at random are:
40, 42, 48, 46, 49, 43, 42, 38, 42

The mode is 42 because it is the measure that

occurs the most numbers of times. This set data
has a unimodal
C. Engagement Solving problems involving MEAN, MEDIAN, AND
MODE:
 A set of problems will be shown and solve by the
class to deeper understanding to the topic.
Instructions:
 The teacher will present questions that need to be
answered by the students.
 The student will be given time to answer the
evaluation.

I. Find the mean, median, and mode of the following

set of data.
The data below show the scores of 20 students in a
math quiz.
22, 33, 35, 45, 34, 26, 29, 35, 38, 40, 45, 38, 28, 29,
25, 39, 32, 27, 47, 45
Mean:
692
x̄=
20
x̄=34.6
Median:
22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 29, 32, 33, 34, 35, 35, 38, 38,
39, 40, 45, 45, 45, 47
34 +35
Md=
2
Md=34.5
Mode:
The mode is 45 because it is the measure that
occurs the most numbers of times. This set data
has a unimodal
II. The data below show the score of 31 students in
2012 Division Achievement Test (DAT). Analyze the
given data and answer the question.

35, 16, 28, 43, 21, 17, 15, 16, 20, 18, 25, 22, 33, 18,
32, 38, 23, 32, 18, 25, 35, 18, 20, 22, 36, 22, 20, 14,
39, 22, 28
Find the mean, median, and mode of the given set
of data.
Mean:
771
x̄=
31
x̄=24.87
Median:
14, 15, 16, 16, 17, 18, 18, 18, 18, 20, 20, 20, 21,
22, 22, 22, 22, 23, 25, 25, 28, 28, 32, 32, 33, 35, 35,
36, 38, 39, 43
Md=22
Mode:
The mode is 18 and 22 because it is the
measures that occurs the most numbers of times.
This set data has a Bimodal

D. Assimilation Assignment:
 The students will answer a set of problems on a
yellow piece of paper.
 They will submit their assignment on the next
meeting
.
1. Find the mean, median, and mode.

2. Find the mean, median, and mode

Exam marks of 60 students.

V. REFLECTION Today I learn that:

 The students will reflect and write the thing/s that
they learned during the discussion to their subject
journal.
I learned that: ________________________
