SundsFibertech Resin System IRIS

The document discusses a new internal resin injection system called IRIS that injects resin into the center of a blowline. It can reduce resin usage by 5-10% and lower maintenance needs compared to traditional external resin nozzles. The system was successfully tested at a 34 t/h fiber production plant where it used 15% less resin while maintaining panel properties. IRIS is a complete modularized system that can be used for MDI, UF, and UMF resins.

IRIS - Internal Resin Injection System

The worlds first internal resin injection

system. Resin header

• Saves resin typical 5 to 10% Cleaning media

• Used for MDI, UF and UMF.
• Clearly reduces maintenance needs. Fiber from Refiner Resininated fiber

Philosophy behind efficient injection of resin.
Traditional resin system
A. Theoretical fully optimized B. Typical result (too high pressure) C. Typical result (too low pressure)

A. Mixing of resin and fiber must be adjusted to the blow line condition. As the condition changing with the
throughput and the performance of the refiner, it is very difficult to achieve an optimal result.
B. Pressure in the blow line is lower or resin nozzle pressure to high leading to over shooting of resin.
Result is higher resin consumption.
C. Pressure is higher or resin nozzle pressure is lower.
Result is higher resin consumption and risk for build-up.
Philosophy behind efficient injection of resin.
IRIS – Internal Resin Injection system
IRIS

• Centralized application of resin in high fiber concentration zone

• Less resin is needed to obtain same panel properties.
• Adding resin from the centre improves blending.
• Adding resin from centre is not effected by blow line conditions.
IRIS is superior the traditional systems

Resin volume fraction in blow line Fiber volume fraction in blow line

• Resin is injected in the center of the blow line by a nozzle arrangement.

• One high capacity nozzle is replacing all, or most, of the existing nozzles.
• The fibers are forced into the resin mist by the shape of the resin house.
• The fiber flow acts as a protection film and keeps the system and the blowline clean.
• The result is less use of resin and less need of maintenance.
Successful test with MDI & MUF
• 34 t/h fiber production
• 6 days test
• Resin consumption
• 15% less resin consumption with same panel properties
• Panel properties
• Internal bond
• Thickness swelling
• Plant efficiency
• The system did not show any need of cleaning after 6 days in operation
IRIS in combination with SundsResin system
IRIS system is a perfect combination with
SundsResin or any traditional high end resin
injection system for UF applications.

• IRIS system in combination with traditional

resin system is an efficient combination.
• The centralized position ensures a perfects
mix between fiber and resin.
• The IRIS system will improve existing resin
system.
• The IRIS high capacity centralized nozzle
replaces several traditional nozzles.
IRIS – Scope of supply
IRIS is complete modularized system for
both MDI, UF & UMF resins.

The system includes following

• One complete Injection module
• IRIS injection system
• Feeding and cleaning manifolds
• One complete resin feeding system
• High pressure pumps
• Filters
• Field instrumentations
• Automation
• HMI, PLC and MCC
