 Answer any 9 out of following 13 questions within the limit of 40 to 50 words as directed:
Question No. 25 to 37 – 2 marks each [18]

25. Prove that 3  2 5 is irrational.

26. A fraction becomes 9/11, if 2 is added to both the numerator and the denominator. If, 3 is added to
both the numerator and the denominator it becomes 5\6. Find the fraction.

27. The altitude of a right triangle is 7 cm less than its base. If the hypotenuse is 13cm, find the other two
sides.

28. Find the discriminant of the equation 3x2 – 2x + 1/3 = 0 and hence find the nature of its roots. Find
them. if they are real.

29. If the sum of the first n terms of an AP is 4n – n2, what is the first term? What is the sum of first two
terms? What is the second term ?

and the height of the cone is equal to its radius. Find the volume of the solid in terms of π.

34. For a given Frequency distribution, in usual notations, l = 40, h = 15, f 0 = 3, f1 = 7 and f2 = 6. Find the
mode of the data.

35. For a given frequency distribution. In usual notations, l = 145, h = 15, n/2 = 25, cf = 11 and f = 18. Find
the median M of the data.

36. Rekha and Diya are friends. What is the probability that both will have (1) different birthdays? (2) the
same birthday?

37. A die is thrown once. Find the probability of getting (1) a prime number (2) an odd number.

SECTION - C
 Answer any 6 out of following 9 questions within the limit of 60 to 80 words as directed:
Question No. 38 to 46 - 3 marks each [18]
38. Without finding the zeros a and b of the quadratic polynomial 6x2-13x+6, find the values of the
following expressions:

(1) α2 + β2

(2) α /β + β/ α

(3) 1/ α +1/ β

39. Form a quadratic polynomial whose zeros are α = 2 + √3 and β = 2 – √3.

40. If the sum of first 7 terms of an AP is 49 and that of 17 terms is 289, find the sum of first n terms.

41. A manufacturirer of TV sets produced 600 sets in the third year and 700 sets in the seventh year.
Assuming that the production increases uniformly by a fixed number every year, find :

(1) the production in the 1st year (2) the production in the 10st year (3) the total production in first 7
years

42. If (1, 2), (4, y), (x, 6) and (3, 5) are the vertices of a parallelogram taken in order, find x and y.

43. PQ is a chord of length 8 cm of a circle of radius 5cm. The tangents at P and Q intersect at a point T
Find the length TP.

44. A quadrilateral ABCD is drawn to circumscribe a circle. Prove that AB + CD = AD + BC.

45. A car has two wipers which do not overlap. Each wiper has a blade of length 25 cm sweeping through
an angle of 115. Find the total area cleaned at each sweep of the blades.

46. A box contains 90 discs which are numbered from 1 to 90. If one disc is drawn at random from the
box. Find the probability that it bears (1) a perfect square number (2) a perfect cube number and (3)
a number which is not divisible by 5.

SECTION - D

 Answer any 5 out of following 8 questions within the limit of 90 to 120 words as directed:
Question No. 47 to 54 - 4 marks each [20]

47. If we add 1 to the numerator and subtract 1 from the denominator, a fraction reduces to 1. It
becomes ½ if we only add 1 to the denominator. What is the fraction ?

48. At present, the age of Ashishkumar is twice the sum of the ages of his two sons Khush and Nilay. 20
years hence, the age of Ashishkumar will equal the sum of the ages of his sons then. Find the present
age of Ashishkumar.

49. State and Prove Basic Proportionality Theorem.

50. E is a point on the side AD produced of a parallelogram ABCD and BE intersects CD at F. Show that

 ABE   CFB.
51. The angle of elevation of the top of a building from the foot of the tower is 30 and the angle of
elevation of the top of the tower from the foot of the building is 60. If the tower is 50m high. Find
the height of the building.

52. Rasheed got a playing top (lattu) as his birthday present, which surprisingly had no colour on it. He
wanted to colour it with his crayons. The top is shaped like a cone surmounted by a hemisphere. The
entire top is 5 cm in height and the diameter of the top is 3.5 cm. Find the area he has to colour.

53. Trusha runs an industry in a shed which is the shape


of a cuboid surmounted by a half cylinder. If the base
os the shed is of the shed of dimention 7m × 15m,
and the height of the cuboidal portion is 8m. find the
volume of air that the shed can hold. Further,
suppose the machinery in the shed occupied a total
space of 300 m3. And there are 20 workers, each of
whom occupy about 0.08m3 space on an average.
Then how much air is in the shed?

54. The following distribution shows the daily pocket allowance of children of a locality. The mean pocket
allowance is Rs. 18. If ∑ 𝑓𝑖 = 64, then find the missing frequencies x and y.
