We wish to express our sincere gratitude to supervisor Dr. S.M. Tripathi and Mr. P.N
Verma Project In-Charge Mr. Ravindra Kumar for their valuable guidance, intelligence,
suggestions, continuous motivation and moral support, which helped us to complete this
project work. Their experimental and theoretical knowledge has been very helpful. We feel
pleasure to express our gratitude to all faculty members of electrical engineering department
for their encouragement and valuable support throughout the work.
We would like to thank Dr. Y.K Chauhan, Head of the Department, Electrical Engineering
for providing us a golden opportunity to work with him. The support and the environment
provided by him during our project was more than what anyone would have expected. We
would also like to acknowledge our friends, who helped us in their own way to complete our
report.

Introduction:-
Welcome to the forefront of wind energy innovation with our Vertical Axis Wind
Turbine (VAWT) project. In a world seeking sustainable solutions, the VAWT stands as
a testament to ingenuity and efficiency. Join us on this journey as we explore the
transformative potential of vertical axis wind turbines in reshaping our renewable energy
landscape.A vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) is a type of wind turbine where the main
rotor shaft is arranged vertically, and the blades radiate out from the central axis. This
design stands in contrast to the more common horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT)
where the blades rotate around a horizontal axis. Vertical axis wind turbines have gained
attention for several reasons, offering unique advantages over their horizontal
counterparts. One key advantage is their ability to capture wind from any direction, as
they do not need to constantly face the wind like horizontal turbines. This makes VAWTs
suitable for urban and decentralized settings, where wind directions can be unpredictable.
The three main types of vertical axis wind turbines are Darrieus, Savonius, and Giromill.
Darrieus turbines typically feature curved blades resembling an egg beater, while
Savonius turbines have a helical shape and Giromill turbines have vertical blades
connected to a central vertical axis.
Project Summary:-
The objective of this project is to design, develop, and prototype a Savonius vertical axis
wind turbine (VAWT) for efficient and cost-effective generation of renewable energy in
urban and rural settings.
Material selection:- Investigate and select appropriate materials for construction of the
turbine blades and support structure, balancing factors such as strength, durability, and
cost.
Integration with power System:- Explore methods for integrating the Savonius turbine
with power electronics and grid connection systems to ensure seamless integration with
existing energy infrastructure
Field Trails:- Deploy the prototype turbine in real-world settings to evaluate its
performance, durability, and environmental impact over an extended period of operation
Current Status:-
We have completed near to approx of project and we are facing some problem in the
project making.
Technical progress:-
Completion of design phase:-
o We have completed the design, only issue occuring in the fan designing and we
are continue working on the turbine fan/blade
o We have used the H type blade but we find that more wind speed required we
found that if we changed H type to savonius type the less wind speed required.
o We have used a DC machine for a turbine which generate electricity.
o We have created design a prototype.
6. Battery:-
This is used for energy storage, generate by wind turbine, And When not
generating supply then battery used for inverter input supply.
7. DC machine:-
It is used to generate DC Voltage with the help of turbine blade.
8. Gear Box:-
It is used to change the rotation speed of prime mover and this is speed up gear
box.
9. Turbine blade:-
Savonius type blade used.
10. IR sensor:-
It is used for RPM reading.
At present it should be used for street lights on highways and runways. But in future it
will be used many turbines by connecting together to form charging station for electric
vehicles.
