Transfer Case Servo Motor 955 624 601 01

Notes
• A failed servo motor is often to blame for issues
with the Cayenne transfer case assembly.

• An "All-Wheel Drive System Defective"

warning in the instrument panel may
accompany Transfer Gear Control Unit fault
code 2033, 2039, 2041, or 2042 upon
overheating the servo motor in the "Low Range"
driving program after driving long distances.

• Fault classification data can be read from

control unit using PIWIS Tester in accordance
with diagnostic instructions in POSES,
Technical Information, Cayenne, Group 3:
3965-Transmission repair work (No. 3/02).

STEP 1
The following is a summary of servo motor installation steps. Refer to Cayenne factory service manual
and all applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSB’s) for complete installation procedure.

STEP 2
Following all safety protocols, lift and support
vehicle. The servo motor is located under the
right side of the SUV and is attached to the
transfer case with three 10mm bolts (two are
easily accessible, one is not). Remove the
three bolts.

STEP 3
Remove the 8mm bolts anchoring the two
wiring connectors, and carefully disconnect
the connectors. Making note of the keyway
orientation on the splined transfer case shaft,
wiggle the servo motor away from the
transfer case.
Installation by a professional technician is recommended. Refer to the factory repair manual for vehicle-specific service procedures
for this part. Tighten all hardware to factory torque specifications and observe all repair manual cautions and warnings. Use safety
stands whenever beneath a vehicle and always wear protective eyewear.

STEP 4
Installation of the new servo motor is the reverse of the removal
procedure. It may take some wiggling to slide the motor over
the transfer case shaft’s splines. The bolt holes on the motor
should align with those on the case.

In rare instances, the female splines in the new motor assembly

may not easily align with the male shaft in the transfer case. In
this situation, the protective shipping cap (which has a molded
male spline to maintain the correct orientation of the female
splines in the new motor) may be used as a tool to rotate the
servo motor slightly. If a large adjustment is needed, something
is probably wrong in the system.

STEP 5
Not all installations are plug and play. If the new servo motor does
not function properly, the Transfer Case Control Module (located
under the passenger seat) must be re-flashed* with the latest
firmware and the current transfer case gear housing
classification data (which can be found on the transfer case
housing, see diagram).

See the factory Cayenne Workshop Manual and all applicable

TSB’s for additional information.

* Early-version control modules cannot be re-flashed, and

must be updated to late-version control module part number 0AD
927 755AD prior to re-flashing.
