Compatibility The Hitachi Storage Integration Lab tested this family of Deskstar drives for compatibility with a wide variety of systems, Host Bus Adapter cards, and Operating Systems. Testing was to demonstrate compatibility with the following hardware and software. Other combinations of hardware and software are expected to function with this product family, but may not have been evaluated. Hard Drive management Utilities The following third party utilities have been tested with the Deskstar 7K250 product family: Norton Ghost 2003 (Symantic) Partition Magic 7 (Power Quest) SMARTDefender (Kroll Ontrack) (note 2)
Third party certification Microsoft Windows Logo Program Certification was completed for the Deskstar 7K250. Submission Id : 707510 Specific notes 1) AT the time of testing these controllers do not support 48bit addressing, so compatibility is limited to 7K250 capacity points <137GB. 2) At the time of testing SMARTDefender does not provide support for RAID controllers. Many motherboards incorporate RAID SATA controller chips and are therefore not compatible with this software utiliity. 3) In situations where multiple Deskstar 7K250 drives are being installed within a system enclosure:- To maximise performance, care should be taken to ensure that adequate mechanical isolation is provided between the drives, to avoid operational vibration from one drive being transmitted to other drives within the system. For more details of specifics associated with RAID operation of ATA drives, see Deskstar 7K250 Hints & Tips document. 4) Service Pack 1 is required to access full capacity of 164GB & 250GB models of the Deskstar 7K250 family when using Microsoft XP. In Windows 2000, Service Pack 3 is required. 5) Early versions of Linux do not provide 48 bit addressing support, so will not work with larger capacities of Deskstar 7K250. see Deskstar 7K250 Hints & Tips document for more detail.
