Mindful Minute Kit
Now that you've dipped your toes into mindfulness, why not
take your practice to the next level with the Mindful Minute Kit,
which includes 150 pages of easy, step-by-step mindfulness
activities for kids?
The Parenting Centre states: Children who do have a set of chores have
higher self-esteem, are more responsible, and are better able to deal with
frustration and delayed gratification, all of which contribute to greater
success in school.
This new mindset brings connection and an increased sense of self. (And
self-esteem.)
One day your kids will leave the house, go away to school, or get a job;
they must know how to wash the dishes or clean a washroom.
These are necessary life skills. Don’t get caught in this trap: Doing too much
for your kids and expecting nothing back. Teach your kids the skills of
everyday living.
HOW TO USE YOUR NEW CHART:
Print the chart color your child prefers + all of the chore cards and
stickers. I recommend printing on thick stock paper, so it's easier to
hang, not as flimsy, and can handle some wear ‘n’ tear.
This step isn't necessary, but boy, oh boy, it sure takes your chart to a
whole new level of fun. Do you have a laminator? (If you don't have one, I
like this one) Laminate the chart, the cards, and even the stickers. We all
know kids are hard on things, so now you won't have to print your chart
and cards every time they get a little beat up.
The next step is the icing on the cake. It's a must-have. You'll need some
Velcro stickers. Attach one side of the Velcro sticker to the task card
and one side to the chart. Ensure that you don't mix up the sides. (i.e., the
"hook" side should be on the chart, and the "furry" side on the cards.) You
can now move the cards around at your leisure.
Start building your child's chore chart based on the tasks you'd like to
focus on. Upon completing each chore, instruct your child to place a
sticker beside the task completed on the appropriate day of the week.
And once you have all the stickers on your chart, give them a big hi-five
for a job well done!
You will also need to decide on an appropriate reward for your child. This
is a personal choice, and you do have a few options. You can tie the
chores to an allowance or use the tasks to earn privileges (like more
screen time or a night at the movies).
