SEMI – DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE VIII – SCIENCE

Quarter : Learning Area : Date : Duration :

2nd Quarter Science 8 May 4 , 2023. 90mins

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the student should be able to;
a. Describe what is food chain
b. Appreciate the importance of food chain in an ecosystem
c. Construct a food chain

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic
: Food Chain
Subtopic
: Types of Food Chain

c. Materials
➢ PPT, Video Clips , Manila Paper, Marker and Loptop, Smart
TV

d. Science Idea
1. Food Chain – A linear network of links in a food web starting
from producer organisms and ending at an apex predator
species or decomposer species
2. Producer – also known as the autotrophs and produced
energy for the consumer and can create their own food in
the process of photosynthesis
3. Consumer – animals that get their energy by eating plants
or other animals.
4. Decomposer - are organism that break down or decaying
organism also known as detrivores

e. Process
➢ Observing , Classifying and Analyzing

f. Values Integrated
➢ Appreciate the importance of food chain in our ecosystem
III. Learning Experiences
Before the Lesson
Lesson Proper Teacher’s Activity
A. Prayer “ Everybody please stand for a short
prayer”
“ Kindly take your seat“
B. Greetings “Good Morning Class!“
“How are you today? “
C. Checking of Attendance “ Who are the absent for today’s
class session? “
“None? Very good! “
D. Review / Recapitulation “ Before we proceed to our newly
set of discussion, we do conduct a
short review”

“Last Meeting we discussed about

ecological relationships so as a sort
of review who can define the….”
❖ Symbiotic Relationship
“Precisely, Symbiotic Relationship
have a various types of animal
interaction who can give at least
one and briefly describe it.
❖ Mutualism, Parasitism, and
Commensalism

“Very good class, you’ve a sharp

memory! I think you are ready
enough for our new set of lesson ! “

During the Lesson

A .Motivation
(The teacher will present a short
video clip about the “Circle of Life”
relating to the topic about food
chain”)

“Kindly listen up and observe

what is the video all about because
after the video I will ask you some
questions”

Processing Questions
1.What is the video all about?
2. What is your observations during
the video presentation

“This video is related to our next

lesson about food chain
B. Discussion (The teacher starts to discuss his
lesson on the front of the class and
starting throwing questions relating
to the topic about food chain)
“This afternoon we will discuss
some components, and types of a
food chain”

“Before anything else does anyone

here in the class had any idea about
food chain? “

“Very good , A food chain is a linear

network of links in a food web
starting from producer organisms
and ending at an apex predator
species, detritivores, or
decomposer species. A food chain
also shows how organisms are
related to each other by the food
they eat.”

“What are the 3 major components

of food chain?”
.
“Good! The three major
components of food chain are
producers, consumers and
decomposers “

“When we talk about producers

they are also known as autotrophs
because they produce a proper
energy from the sun and
transferred it to the consumer by
the consumer eating the producer.
Next is the consumer, commonly
consumer are classified as a
herbivore, because these organism
eats plants and gets a higher
energy from the producer
Furthermore, the predators are
commonly carnivorous animals that
kills or eats their prey which is our
consumers and they are the apex of
the food chain and lastly the
decomposers or also known as
detritivores, these decomposers
such as mushrooms decompose
the dead body of the predator that
results as the carbon reservior and
gives the energy again to the
producer”

“Now, who can give the example of

the food chain in a jungle? “

“What are the 3 types of food

chain?”

“Precisely! The 3 types of food

chain are Detritus, Parasitic and
Grazing Food chain”

“Now, is food chain can only be

seen in terrestrial biomes? “

“ Excellent! Food chain can be seen

in any biomes or ecosystem
whether it’s in terrestrial or aquatic
ecosystem.

“ Does food chain is significant in

our ecosystem?”.

“That’s quite a good answer class”

After the Lesson
A . Activity Proper
(The teacher will divide the class
into 3 groups he will explain to the
students what to do in an activity)

( The students will Perform the

activity called “Make my Chain“

( See attached activity sheet)

B. Generalization
“ So for the overview of our lesson,
What have you learned? “

“Very good food chains are the

linear network of organisms starting
from producer and ending in apex
predator or decomposer”

“Who can give one of the major

components of food chain and
briefly describe it? Anyone of the
class? “

“Very good class you’ve already

known the different components of
food chain I think are you ready for
the short quiz? “

C. Evaluation
Direction: Answer directly. Choose
the letter of the correct answer.
Write your answer in your ¼ sheet
of paper

→ butterfly
D. berries → frog → plantain →
bacteria

5.Does food chain can only be

found in terrestrial organisms?

A. It depends upon a situation

B. No, it can also be formed in
marine organisms, freshwater
organism, and in forest organism
C. Yes, only terrestrial organisms
can form a food chain
D. None of the above

D. Assignment
Direction : In a one long bond
paper create only one food web
choosing one of the different types
of food chain

“So this is for today, Thank you

everyone and class dismissed “
