25 Book Club Assessment Project Choices

Please choose one project choice for each book that you read for the 25 Book Club. You must do each every project on this list at least once. We suggest you dont repeat until you have finished the list.
1. FACTS & FIBS: You must write down 10 actual facts that occur or that are true about your book and 5 things that are definitely false or not true about it. CHARACTER MAP: You must outline a persons body, head, or two hand prints. Inside one of those choices, you must write down words, actions, ideas, sentences, or other items that you would use to describe this person. It can also be done by outlining an object and by describing an event instead of a personality. BOOK RENAMING: You must rename your book with an original name, create a colorful drawing that illustrates your book, and give a 2-3 sentence reason for your new title. All three should be on the same side of the sheet of paper. SUMMARY BOXES: Use four boxes to summarize your book. The boxes are PEOPLE, PLACE/SETTING, PROBLEMS, and SOLUTIONS. You should have 2-3 facts for each box with details from the novel. PROBABLE PASSAGES: This organizer divides the information from a problem in the book into four columns or boxes. They are SETTING, CHARACTERS, PROBLEMS, and SOLUTIONS. You need to describe where it takes place, who is involved, what problems occur, and how they are solved. TIMELINE: Use ten boxes that retell the major events of the book in proper chronological order. You can connect the boxes with lines or arrows so I know what order they go in from beginning to end. STORY JOURNAL: You are to write as if you are a character in the book. Write a journal entry about a problem or situation that is occurring in the book. Make sure you are as specific as possible. Your journal should be at least 10-12 sentences in length and must accurately retell the events relating to your character. COMIC STRIP: Create a five box comic strip that retells the major events of the story. Each box must have a drawing and 3-4 phrases of conversation or a statement that tells what is happening at that time in the comic.

VENN DIAGRAM: Create a chart that describes two or more characters. You must state 5 things about each character and at least 3 ways they are all alike. Your items that describe the characters must be accurate and should be directly from the novel. INTERVIEW: Create a 12 question interview for a main character or, if you prefer, create a 12 question interview for a classmate about the book using information you just read. ACROSTIC POEM: Use the letters of a character or event written vertically. You start each line of the poem with that letter. Each line must be at least 5 words long and the word you use must have 5 or more letters. WORD WEB: Think of a word or sentence that best describes the entire book. Then, write down 12+ words/events that are similar to that word; Choose events that go along with that word or character(s) actions that fit with that word or sentence. NEWSPAPER: Retell the events of the book as if you were a newspaper reporter. You need a newspaper name, a headline, a date, and your name as the author. You will then need to retell the events of the book as if you were actually there like a real newspaper reporter. Be sure to use details and no less than 12-14 complete sentences. LETTER TO THE AUTHOR: Write a letter to the author of your novel and explain how you feel about the book. CLASSIFIEDS: Read the classifieds. Find something a character in your book was looking for or would like. Cut out the classified. Write a short paragraph telling why he or she needs/wants the item. Would the one advertised be a good buy for him or her? Why or Why not? GIFT GIVING: Choose an interesting character from your book. Consider the character's personality, likes and dislikes. Decide on a gift for him or her. . . something he or she would really like and use. Design a greeting card to go along with your gift. In the greeting, explain to your friend from the book why you selected the gift. BOOKMARK: Look through magazines for words and pictures that describe your book. Use these to create a collage on a bookmark. THIS BOOK MADE ME: Complete each of these eight ideas with material from the the book you read: This book made me wish that. . ., realize that. . ., decide that. . ., wonder about. . ., see that. . ., believe that . . ., feel that . . ., and hope that. . . . LETTER TO A FRIEND: Write a letter to a friend about the book you read. Explain why you liked or did not like the book using examples from your book.
