SORO-SORO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Purok 4, Brgy. Soro-Soro Biñan City, Laguna/School ID:108231

PROJECT IRISH
To adhere to the new normal situation due to
the global pandemic, SDO Biñan upgraded the old
normal division reading program from its name
Project IRIS to IRISH – Intensifying Reading
Interventions in Schools & in every Household. This
new normal reading program aims to intensify the
School-Based Reading Programs in all schools in the
SDO.

Soro-Soro Elementary School initialized reading

activities that can be conducted at home with the guidance and help of parents, volunteers, and
community leaders.

SSES started its first project in alignment with the objectives of 5B’s project and Project
IRISH last August 23, 2021. This project called Project R.A.C.E (Read Always and Count Everyday)
targeted pupils who are in need of assistance in reading and arithmetic. To rekindle pupils’ interest in
learning; teachers united with their pupils via Google Meet and Messenger. The teachers who were
assigned weekly prepared reading materials using Powerpoint presentations and presented it to
learners during their sessions. Visual aids help them become active and more enthusiastic.

Then, Last September 9, 2021, SIKLAB
(Samahang Itataguyod ang Kabataan at Layuning Alay sa
Bayan) of Soro-Soro, a youth organization that aims to ignite
the wisdom and talent of their fellow youth lend a helping hand
in the Brigada Pagbasa project. They pledged to provide learning
kit materials to SSES pupils and offered to be a mentor in the
Division 5Bs Project - “Bawat Bata sa Binan ay Bumabasa at
Bumibilang”. This project is now called SIKLAB Project an
upgraded version of Project R.A.C.E wherein this time SIKLAB
members became the reading mentors of SSES pupils.

This project started last October 4, 2021, wherein every Monday, Grade 1-2, Grade 3-
4, and Grade 5-6 pupils will have a combined 30-minute class for reading and basic math operation.
This project is done via Google Meet. Every learner who is willing to join the project is invited.

October 18, was the first English reading session for Grade 1-2. It was initiated by Miss Kyrishdy
Lee by introducing herself to everyone. There were 15 participants from Grade 1 and 2 learners.

At first, Miss Kyrishdy Lee taught the children on reading CVC words. Then, she started calling
the children one by one to read the CVC words posted on the screen. Miss Kyrishdy Lee then initiated
to read a CVC Short Story and after doing so, she challenged the learners to read the short story after
her. There were learners who raised their hands and were ready to do the challenge and seems to be
excited and enjoying the session. And finally, Miss Kyrishdy asked the learners to read the Short CVC
Story synchronously. The children have learned again how to read and they seemed to be happily
participating the whole time within the reading session.

Another session was held that day for Grade 5 & 6 pupils. The topic for their reading session
focuses on Basic Sight Words. Pupils were asked to read the correct pronunciation of the given words
and they were asked to construct sentences out of those words.

Miss Nicole, the SIKLAB Chairman was the instructor for this session. With her charming voice
and even-tempered personality, pupils were able to participate vigorously and construct creative
sentences.

Pupils were able to enjoy the session with the BINGO WORDS activity.

SSES is blessed to have another partner for

the Division 5Bs project because last September 22, 2021,
Rotary Club Sta. Rosa Centro offered their Project BEL
(Basahin, E-kwento, Linangin) to Soro-Soro Elementary
School through an online meeting together with other school
beneficiaries. Their project aims to help frustrated learners to
stimulate their love for reading and have a “break” from their
modular distance learning. The project started last October 6,
2021, and currently has done 4 out of 5 interactive reading
sessions, which is held every Wednesday, with 5 selected
pupils from grade 3-6 via Zoom.

Another school project related to 5Bs is the “Pamilya

Ko, Guro Ko”. This is still an ongoing project for SSES pupils.

In the early years of a child, who is only about to start their

love for reading, will be guided by their family members using
the local reading materials that are made by SSES teachers or
any available materials they have at home.

This project aims not only to boost their brain development

but also make a special bond with their family.
