Research Objective:
The objective of this research is to find a suitable alternative to the paper bags that we use
day-to-day. This experiment shall produce an environmentally friendly paper bag made out of
goosegrass (Eleusine indica) that could compare to commercial paper bags as well as benefit the
environment. To find a way to make use of grass, specifically goosegrass, that is invasive to the fields
of Tarlac. There remains little to no research on goosegrass’ effectivity to be turned to paper. By
turning the grass into paper, the grass can find a better purpose rather than only further spreading in
the fields.
Target SDG:
The study comparing the durability of paper bags made out of goosegrass (Eleusine indica)
and commercial paper bags aligns with the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible
Consumption and Production, which seeks to ensure that there are resources available that can be an
effective alternative to usual paper bags. This research will inform consumers that a paper bag made
out of goosegrass can be a sustainable alternative.
Research Questions:
This study seeks to create a paper bag made out of goosegrass and find out if it can be a
suitable alternative to commercial paper bags.
1. How does the durability of paper bags made out of goosegrass compare to commercial
paper bags?
2. How durable is the paper bag made out of goosegrass in terms of the:
4. What are the visible and quantifiable differences between the commercial paper bag and
the paper bag made out of goosegrass?
5. Is the paper bag made out of goosegrass a suitable alternative to commercial paper bags?
