Assignment (5 Marks): Stop Kiss by Diana Son

Direction: Answer in the following questions in a short paragraph.
1. Analyze the character of Sara. How does living in the city and her
relationship with Callie affect her personality? In what ways does she evolve
throughout the play? Provide a scene from the play to support your answer.
(5 Marks)

Answer
- Sara is shown as someone who’s shy and careful, not used to many things
outside her usual life. Her family and where she comes from make her act
this way. But when she moves to the city and gets closer to Callie, it changes
her a lot. Being in the big city makes Sara face new stuff and tough
situations, making her think more about who she really is and what she
wants.

- Sara and Callie's relationship helps Sara grow as a person. Callie is bold
and likes trying new things, which is different from Sara who is more
careful. Being around Callie encourages Sara to try things she wouldn't
normally do. As they become closer, Sara starts feeling more sure of herself
and less shy, letting go of some of her worries.

- One scene that illustrates Sara’s evolution is when Sara finally kisses Callie
after a night out together. In this moment, Sara takes a decisive step forward,
embracing her feelings for Callie and making choices for herself. It’s a big
change for Sara, as she starts to be more confident and true to herself. As the
story goes on, Sara becomes stronger and more sure of herself because of
her time in the city and her friendship with Callie.
2. Discuss the significance of the narrative style. How does the non-linear
structure of the play, with its alternating scenes between past and present,
enhance the storytelling and the theme of the play? (5 Marks)
Answer
- The way "Stop Kiss" tells its story is a non-linear structure. It doesn't go in
a straight line from start to finish. This makes the story more interesting and
helps us understand the characters and what's happening better.By showing
scenes from both the past and the present, we get a better picture of Sara and
Callie's relationship. We see how they change over time and why certain
things matter. This keeps us interested in what's going on and makes us think
more about the characters.
– Scene past and present lets us see how Sara and Callie change. We can
compare different times in their story and see how they become different
people.
– In the end, the way "Stop Kiss" tells its story makes it more exciting and
helps us understand the characters and ideas better.
– Stop Kiss switch scenes between past and present to make everyone
understand that violence can bring love.
– The theme of the play is love, identity and the consequences of violence.
