CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This chapter discusses the introduction, background of the study, statement of the
problem, scope, limitation and delimitation, significance of the study, and reference.
Exploring other alternative ways to use a particular product helps to utilize its
purpose, especially when it is within reach. Coffee waste, for example, is just thrown to
waste mostly by various coffee shops, for instance, in the area of Batangas where coffee
is part of the residents’ everyday life. However, multiple studies suggest that coffee
residues cause environmental problems especially those that are massively produced.
Most of coffee waste ends up in landfills and there would be approximately three months
before it starts decomposing which creates methane, a greenhouse gas, that is more
harmful than carbon dioxide.
Due to this, this study also aims to lessen the said impact by re-purposing the use of
coffee waste in an organic and non-toxic way. The idea of using coffee waste is based on
the benefits of its properties as well as its practicality. Caffeine causes constriction that
makes the skin looks tighter and firmer which makes various skin problems less visible.
The use of a peel-off mask enhances facial skin beauty and promotes skin improvement.
Researchers are exploring the use of coffee waste in peel-off masks for potential benefits.
In 2013, there was a study about coffee, exploring its significance for us. It promotes skin
health by enhancing our skin and contains caffeic acid, an antioxidant that may increase
collagen levels and decrease premature aging of cells.
In this modern era, skincare practices are becoming popular, and one of them is
the use of peel-off masks, commonly utilized by teenagers, whether male or female.
Pimples, redness, itching, and acne are acquired from dirty pollution, not just limited to
this; there are many other sources. That's why skincare has become popular to eliminate
these issues and make our skin healthier.
One aspect of skincare includes using a peel-off mask with coffee waste. Washing
our face with soap is no longer sufficient nowadays. The youth prefer using skincare
products like facial masks and peel-off masks to cleanse their faces. Coffee is commonly
used in various skincare products, prompting researchers to delve into the topic of
utilizing coffee waste for peel-off masks. The benefits of coffee on our skin include
removing dead skin cells, wrinkles, fine lines, anti-aging, and making our skin healthier.
Caffeine constricts blood vessels under our skin to reduce dark circles and minimize
under-eye puffiness, commonly referred to as eye bags. In this study, the aim is to know
the properties of coffee waste and how to utilize it for the benefit of one’s skin as well as
to reduce its negative impact on the environment.
Over the past few centuries, skin problems have been a common concern among
individuals — most especially women — and many solutions have arisen. Whether it be
blackheads, whiteheads, dry skin, dark under eyes, and oiliness, there’s a remedy for that.
However, several of these solutions are chemically-driven and will mostly cause
unpredictable results. The purpose of this research is to help all skin-type, to have
moisturized skin for every individual. The researchers conduct this research because of
observation since a lot of coffee shops throw away the coffee grounds. The researchers
focus on using the coffee grounds for the reason that it has a lot of benefits, for example,
it removes dark spots, moisturizes the skin, and removes dead skin cells.
The present study aims to Utilization of Coffee Waste by Creating an Organic Peel Off
Mask Solution for All Skin Types and explore possible benefits, safety, effectiveness,
risks, and regulatory considerations of using coffee waste in a peeling face mask, with a
focus on its suitability for all skin types
1.3 Frequency of using peeling face masks and preferred skincare routines
2. How do individuals evaluate the efficacy of using organic coffee waste in a peeling
face mask in relation to:
2.3 Overall satisfaction and perceived advantages of using the coffee waste face mask.
3. What safety measures should be followed for all skin types when utilizing organic
coffee waste in a peeling face mask, and what are the possible risks and side effects?
3.3 Safety measures for those with certain skin issues or disorders
4. What is the effectiveness, simplicity of use, and overall impression of using an organic
coffee waste peeling face mask among users?
4.1 Satisfaction with the skin's improved texture and exfoliating qualities.
4.3 Overall impression and readiness to suggest the face mask made from coffee waste.
5.1 Assess the environmental impact and sustainability of using leftover organic coffee
grounds to make the peeling face mask.
5.2 Examine whether using coffee leftovers to make skincare items could reduce waste
and carbon emissions.
5.3 Examine the advantages and disadvantages for the environment of the cosmetic
industry's use of organic coffee waste as a substitute ingredient.
The researchers believed that this study would be of great value to business owners,
students of SAINT JAMES ACADEMY, future researchers, researchers, and the
community.
To the Business Owners. This study would make it more convenient as they won't have a
grief finding supplies in terms of coffee needs because of the sufficient number of
producers.
To the Student of Ibaan Saint James Academy. This study will serve as a helpful resource
for them that can serve as a guide that can be use in the future.
To the Present Researchers. This research study will help them gain in-depth background
knowledge about turning coffee waste into skincare and lip scrub. As they pursue
skincare business courses, they will acquire learnings that can be used to conduct their
research study and compare results in different settings and times.
To the Future Researchers. As a result, they may apply the knowledge and skills gained
in the near future or in their daily lives. Furthermore, the study holds potential benefits
from the future researchers, serving as a reference for future related studies.
To the Community. This study will be beneficial for the growth of job opportunities and
to support for community activities.
This study will encompass the profile of the respondents in different terms. The
researchers will identify and collect their age range and gender. Skin type and its issues
will also be determined according to their response. The researchers will also be focusing
on the frequency of using peeling face masks and preferred skincare routine of the
respondents.
This study will also involve the assessing of the benefits of utilizing organic coffee
grounds in a peeling face mask that will be done by the researchers. The benefit of
utilizing organic coffee grounds in a peeling face mask will be assessed by the
researchers. Its exfoliating qualities, capacity to get rid of dead skin cells, and influence
on enhancing the texture and appearance of skin will all be analyzed by the researchers.
Those who use the coffee waste face mask will also have their overall satisfaction and
perceived advantages measured as part of the study. Finding out how efficient and helpful
it is to include organic coffee waste in beauty routines is the aim.
``For the allergic responses or skin irritation, the researchers will look into the
measures that should be followed when using organic coffee waste in a peeling face mask
for all skin types in order to prevent allergic reactions or skin irritation. The purpose of
the study is to investigate the possible dangers and negative effects of using these peeling
face masks, with a focus on allergic responses and skin irritation. By using organic coffee
waste in peeling face masks, people can reduce their risk of allergic reactions or skin
irritation. This is something the researchers hope to help people understand.
The researchers aims to assess ways of reducing the negative impact of coffee
waste to the environment. Aside from the effectiveness on the skin, the study will also
cover other factors like its effects to various things. The practicality and sustainability of
using coffee waste will be evaluated and how it reduces carbon emissions. The possibility
of using this particular product as well as its pros and cons will all be assessed.
