Investigating AI Reliance of DDSNHS STEM Students:

Advantages and Disadvantages

Impartial Fulfillment of the Requirements of Practical Research 1

April-May 2024
Methodology

This part of the research focused on the method used to investigate how broad Artificial

Intelligence Reliance on STEM students determines the number of users, how frequent they use

AI, and its components, which include the tools, and how it’s effective to student’s performance.

The research also investigated the advantages and disadvantages of AI Reliance.

Research Design

The descriptive research design and the use of statistical methods are employed to

understand the study. According to Ali et al. (2016), statistical analysis gives meaning to the

meaningless numbers, thereby breathing life into lifeless data. Statistical measures and examines

random population samples using a variety of statistical tests, which can help prove and justify

your study with the numbers that resulted from statistical analysis (Tzenioz,. 2023). Collecting

and analyzing data through statistics is a really important part of furthering our understanding of

everything from human behavior to the universe itself, according to Enago. Through statistics,

researchers had been successful in identifying how their study will affect various sectors,

providing unbiased results that strengthen the study.

Research Respondents

The respondents will be chosen from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and

Mathematics (STEM) Strand at Dupax del Sur. Based on school records, a total of 25 students,
including the researchers themselves, will be selected as respondents, with 20 students who can

fill out the questionnaires being the main focus of the study.

Random sampling was utilized in the study. The technique used is adapting the Slovin

Formula, which states that n should equal N/1 + Ne^2, where N is the total number of eligible

student respondents, 20 students, and e represents the margin of error, which in this case, is 5%.

According to the results of the Slovin Technique, 19 students from the STEM Strand will

be asked to fill out the questionnaire, satisfying the study’s requirements, which is to know the

number of students who use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for their activities and its frequency, as

well as the advantages and disadvantages of AI use in students’ activities.

Research Environment

The study was conducted at the Dupax del Sur National High School, which is located in

Domang, Dupax del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya.

The study is aiming to achieve the results of the research on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Reliance to determine its impact on students’ activities. While it can be either negative or

positive, it can help us to identify and recognize how it affects the respondents and the

environment in which the research will be conducted. Through the answers on the questionnaire,

we will be able to observe the growing reliance of AI by students as we approach the 21 st century

where technology is rapidly evolving.

Research Instrument

The survey questionnaire is created by the researchers, combining and adapting key

aspects from similar studies in the literature on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Reliance, such as

Chan (2023) and Cao (2022). The specific questions on the survey are as follows:

Validation of Instrument (Letter to Principal)

Greeting of Peace!

Sir,

As student researchers studying at Dupax del Sur National High School under the STEM

Strand, we are conducting a study entitled “Investigating the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Reliance

among the STEM Students of DDSNHS: Advantages and Disadvantages” in partial fulfillment of

our Research in Practical Research 1.

To successfully complete this study, we believe that a small survey about the students’

reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) among STEM students would provide valuable data that

will contribute to our learning experience. We respectfully request your permission to conduct

the survey at Dupax del Sur National High School.

Sincerely,

April Kylle Eugenio

11-STEM student.

Figure 2. Illustrates the process of our study, beginning with defining the purpose and objectives

of our research, formulating the hypotheses and questions, which involves the methodology and

research design. It also includes the collection of data through survey, analyzing and

interpreting it using tables, and reporting the research results in the discussion section before

finalizing it with the dissemination of the study outcomes.

Statistical treatment of data

As the surveyors collected the data, they compiled and standardized the results to prepare

them for statistical treatment. When it was time to analyze the data, the researchers applied

statistical methods to answer the study questions and satisfy the study’s aim. The statistical tools

used were the percentage of students using AI, their frequency of AI use, and frequencies of

various responses to determine the advantages and disadvantages of AI use among students at the

DDSNHS STEM Strand.

1. Frequency counts can be used to describe the distribution of data, such as in our study,

where they can be used to find the percentage of students who use AI. The frequency

counts can calculate the proportion of students using AI in the overall student population.

2. Percentage provides a visualization of the data and can be useful for making comparisons

between the various data points.
