illustrates the measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) of a statistical data.

III. Focused GAD principle/s to be integrated

All learners should practice equality in dealing with people regardless of gender.

IV. Intended Learning Outcomes

Knowledge identify mean, median and mode, of grouped data

Skills calculate the measures of central tendency of grouped data

Attitude show willingness to cooperate in performing the assigned

tasks.
Values appreciate working with group.

VI. Learning Experiences (5 Es)

1. Engage ROUTINE
1. Prayer
2. Attendance and physical arrangement
3. Recapping/ checking the assignment.

Pink toe
The teacher calls out a colour and a body part. Students
must find an object in the room that has that colour and
then touch the object with the selected body part. For
example, if the teacher calls out “red nose”, students need
to find an object that is red and touch it with their nose.
The teacher continues calling colours and body parts. To
spice things up, you can add an element of competition to
this game. Students that are too slow in completing the
task can be asked to sit down. The last remaining student
is the winner.

Procedure:
1. analyze what word that represents the image
2. raise your right hand if you know the answer
3. the first person who can answer will receive something.

GROUPED DATA
DISCUSSION PROPER
3. Explain
Grouped data
Frequency Distribution Table
The number of pieces of data that fall into a particular class is
called the frequency of that class
For example, as shown in Table 1, the frequency of the class 31-35
is seven. A table listing all classes and their frequencies is called a
frequency distribution.
Examples:
Table 1. Scores of Grade 7-Narnia Students in the 4th Periodical
Test in Mathematics.

Mean for the Grouped Data

When the number of items in a set of data is too big, items are
grouped for convenience. To find the mean of grouped data using
class marks, the following formula can be used:
Mean = ∑(𝑓𝑋) /∑𝑓
where: 𝑓 is the frequency of each class
𝑋 is the class mark of each class
The class mark (or class midpoint) is the mid-value of a class
interval

Example 1. Calculate the mean of the 4th Periodical Test Scores of

Grade 7-Narnia Students in Mathematics.
4th Periodical Test Scores of Grade 7-Narnia Students in
Mathematics

SOLUTION:
Step1: get the class interval, and the total of frequency if done

Step 2: get the class mark (X) by adding the score then dividing
the sum by 2. Example 46-50 = 96/2 =48
Step 3: Multiply the frequency to the class mark or (x) for
example: 48(2) = 96

Step 4: calculate using the formula and

Substitute each values

Therefore, the mean of the 4th periodical test is 35.5.

Median for Grouped Data

The median is the middle value in a set of quantities.
Half of the quantities is located above the median and the other
half is found below it, whenever the quantities are arranged
according to magnitude (from highest to lowest)

Calculate the median of Grade 7-Narnia Students in the 4th

Periodical Test in Mathematics.
4th Periodical Test Scores of Grade 7-Narnia Students in
Mathematics
Since were done with getting the interval as well as the total
frequency we will now proceed to getting the median.
Step 1: We well get the lower class boundary. To get the LCB,
we will subtract 0.5 from all the lower class limits. Example 46 -
0.5 = 45.5. and if we are going to get the upper class limits we
will just simply add 0.5.

Step 2: to get the less than cumulative frequency we will start

adding the number of frequency. Starting from lowest score. For
example: 4+7= 11, 11+6= 17 , and so on.

Step 3: Using the formula we can now get the median

First we have to distribute the values

Therefore, the median of the 4th Periodical Test is 34.79 (Note:
The median 34.79 falls within the class boundaries of 30.5-35.5

Mode for the Grouped Data

The mode for the grouped data can be approximated using the
following
formula:
Mode = 𝑙𝑏𝑚𝑜 + [𝐷1/𝐷1+𝐷2]𝑖
where: 𝑙𝑏𝑚𝑜 is the lower boundary of the modal class;

𝐷1 is the difference between the frequencies of the

modal class and the next lower class;

𝐷2 is the difference between the frequencies of the

modal class and the next upper class; and

𝑖 is the class interval

The modal class is the class with the highest frequency.
Example 3.
Calculate the mode of the 4th periodical test scores of Grade 7-
Narnia students in Mathematics.
Since we already have the values of our lower class boundary
we will just have to distribute each value

𝑙𝑏𝑚𝑜 = 30.5
𝐷1 = 7 - 4 = 3
𝐷2 = 7 – 5 = 2
𝑖=5
