In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the challenges faced by senior high
school students who are also working part-time jobs. These students often struggle to
balance their academic responsibilities with their work commitments, which can hurt their
educational experience and overall well-being. To address this issue, educators and
policymakers have been exploring alternative delivery modes (ADM) in education.
Alternative delivery modes refer to non-traditional methods of instructional delivery, such as
online classes, blended learning, or flexible schedules. These modes aim to provide more
flexibility and accessibility to students, including those who are working. The study was
conducted at Sta. Monica High School aims to examine the effect of alternative delivery
modes on senior high school working students. It seeks to understand how these modes
can better support their academic performance, engagement, and overall educational

Scope and Delimitation
The study will focus on working seniors in high school at Sta. Monica High School,
learners in the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) program. Students in the Humanities and
Social Sciences Strand of senior high school will be chosen as participants. The study will
primarily look at how the ADM affects students in their senior year of high school who work
jobs on the side. Any non-traditional method of delivering education—like online learning, or
modular approaches—that gives students flexibility as they attend to other obligations or
work is referred to as alternative delivery methods (ADM). In the same educational
environment, the study will contrast the experiences and academic results of ADM students
with those of traditional (non-ADM) students. This comparison will assist in determining the
particular effects of ADM on working students. Students in their senior year of high school
who work while they study are the special focus of this study. The experiences and results
of non-working students in ADM or traditional settings might not be included. Although the
study will discuss students' general well-being, it will not go into great detail on more
general socio-economic issues or individual situations that can affect working students'
experiences outside of the classroom. The study will mostly use quantitative techniques,
like surveys and the examination of academic performance data. Case studies or in-depth
interviews are examples of qualitative elements that might not be presented in great detail.
This method of defining the parameters and scope helps the study stay on course while
recognizing its shortcomings and guaranteeing that it is pertinent to the particular context of

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
This chapter presents some reviews of related literature and studies …
Review of Related Literature
This chapter presents the relevant literature and studies local and foreign taken from the
internet.
A. The effect of blended learning on working students
Education is one of the needs of each individual. It is held in the school every year to
teach problem-solving skills. Traditional education is the primary system of education
that occurs between a teacher and students and is performed in the classroom in schools.
Since the coronavirus has spread, the world has altered and our traditional education has
been affected. Face-to-face classes have been suspended because of the risk of exposure
to the sickness. Thus, the Department of Education implemented different learning
methods such as distance learning, modular learning, and blended learning.
According to (Seameo-Innotech, 2019) a brief review of the K-12 system in the
Philippines revealed that within the public schools, alternative learning programs are
targeting independent learners, potential school leavers, and youths in difficult

circumstances (DepEd Order No. 54 s. 12, Phils). These programs under the ADM
provide access and flexibility to the current basic education offerings via assistance from
ICTs. One type of ADM is the Open High School Program, which aims to enable youth
and adults to continue and complete a secondary education outside of the usual classroom
delivery (Open High School System Act 2014 (Phils) s.2277). Another type of ADM is
the learning Program, adopted selectivity in city school districts. These programs
capitalize on the strengths of BL delivery and support from stakeholders.
1. Increased flexibility: Blended learning provides the flexibility to attend classes both
online and in person. This gives working students the ability to manage their work
schedules more effectively and fit their studies around their work and personal
commitments.
2. Enhanced accessibility: Students who are working can access blended learning, thanks
to online course materials at any time and from any location. This facilitates them to
study and finish their schoolwork, no matter where they are or what time of day it is.
3. Reduce cost: for working students, blended learning can help to reduce costs
associated with transportation, parking, and other expenses related to attending classes on
campus.

STA. MONICA HIGH SCHOOL
4. Enhance technology: Working students who engage in blended learning are exposed to
a variety of digital tools and resources. This can help them to develop valuable
technology skills that are highly in demand in the modern workplace.
The researchers conclude that the learners who are experiencing financial unstable and
are currently employed will benefit from blended learning because they are facing
financial challenges. This study also demonstrated that the students will save costs, which
significantly assists them in getting by from their present conditions. Therefore, the
researchers agree that it will be extremely beneficial to the working students.
B. The benefits of blended learning to working students.
Blended learning has several benefits for students because it provides them with the
freedom to learn at their own pace, in their way, and in a relaxed setting. Additionally, it
offers a great deal of versatility and may be altered to suit specific requirements. Working
students should select blended learning since it allows them to manage their studies and
their jobs. It gives them the time to study at their speed, according to their schedules, and
gives them access to excellent educational resources. This can be done without
jeopardizing their careers or personal lives.
- Flexibility: Blended learning offers a more flexible schedule, which is an advantage for
working students. They can balance their work schedule and academic schedules more
easily.
11

DIVISION OF PUERTO PRINCESA CITY
STA. MONICA HIGH SCHOOL
- Convenience: Online lectures and course materials are available to students, which
implies that they can revisit the course material whenever they have free time.
- Cost-effective: blended learning can be cost-effective as students do not need to spend
money on accommodation or commuting to attend classes. Moreover, online learning
saves on the cost of textbooks, printed notes, and other materials.
- A safer learning environment: During the pandemic times, blended learning has become
more popular due to social distancing. Thus, students are still able to study from home
without running the risk of being in a packed classroom.
The researchers conclude that the benefits of blended learning to the working students
are; being able to manage their own time so that they can learn at their place, it also helps
them to reduce their financial expenses, and they can also continue their careers despite
the adversity they are facing. Lastly, they will have a safe learning environment.
Therefore, the researchers are in favor of this study because blended learning will be of
much help to those who are currently working while studying.
C. Different types of blended learning
Hybrid learning can be promoted through the use of blended learning approaches.
Schools and teachers create experiences and opportunities that combine face-to-face
learning with distance learning. Blended learning began primarily as an

approach designed to augment traditional instruction methods for students who
attended classes in a physical school building all day, every day. However, these
methods have also been leveraged to support a combination of in-person education
and at-home learning. There are several different, distinct models, but they all share
several important aspects.
According to Thorne, Wu et al. (2015), learning refers to any integration of
learning delivery methods, including most often traditional face-to-face classrooms
with asynchronous and synchronous (face-to-face) online learning. The term
focuses on the principal role of computer-based technologies (e-learning systems),
emphasizing access and flexibility, improving classroom teaching and learning
activities, and changing the way individuals learn. It integrates instructional
materials via audio, video, text, e-mail, live chat sessions, online discussions,
forums, quizzes, assignments, and conference calls. So and Brush recognized three
types of combinations in a blended course: learning activities, students, and Instructors
Online Learning- Online learning is a form of education where students can take courses
and learn new skills online rather than in a traditional classroom setting. This can be done

through videos, online lectures, and interactive exercises. An Internet-based learning
environment that can connect students of diverse backgrounds who boast different
perspectives. A higher education institution will use a learning management system,
or LMS, to facilitate online learning, which can take the form of asynchronous
learning (where students are not required to be online at the same time and utilize
discussion threads and e-mails to complete coursework) or synchronous learning
(where students must be online at the same time).
Blended Learning- blended learning offers more flexible and reasonably priced
learning options, it can help students who are struggling financially have better access to
education. Students who are unable to pay for traditional on-campus classes, for instance,
may be able to enroll in online courses or blended learning programs, which enable them
to finish their schoolwork from home or at work. Furthermore, by removing the need for
pricey textbooks and other materials and enabling students to finish homework on their
own, blended learning can contribute to lower educational costs. All things considered,
blended learning holds promise for expanding educational opportunities and enhancing
the performance of students facing financial difficulties. Modular Learning- Blended
learning is an educational methodology that integrates virtual learning resources and
possibilities.

The researchers have demonstrated that Modular Learning, Online Learning, and
face-to-face learning are distinct forms of blended learning. This approach enables
students to pursue their studies while managing other commitments. The study
endorses the flexibility of allowing students and teachers to choose the learning
models that suit their needs.
