SPP Mobile Printer Firmware Update for ES

Purpose:

To provide instructions on:

• how to update Firmware for SPP printer to latest version of V01.12 for all devices currently
running on V01.05 or less in order to fix any potential barcode visibility issues on a printout.

To achieve firmware update, you are required to complete:

• Download to your laptop of zip file containing firmware update for SPP Printer
• Pairing of the Printer
• Manual Validation of Firmware

1. Downloading zip file with firmware update for SPP Printer

Purpose:

To provide instructions on:

• how to download Unified Mobile Utility for POS application to your laptop.

1. Refer to the application titled Unified Mobile Utility for POS. Run this program.

2. Warning message is received that Windows protected your PC.

Select More info option.

3. Click Run anyway button.

4. If Restricted Action message pops-up, please open an IT incident on IT Central page to get
permissions to install the Unified Mobile Utility for POS application.

2. Pair a Bluetooth device in Windows

Purpose:

To provide instructions on:

• how to add Bluetooth device to your laptop and how to pair Printer.

5. On your laptop, select Start, open Bluetooth and other devices settings.

6. Choose to Add Bluetooth or other devices, then select Bluetooth as your desired device, tap
your SPP Printer as a device to connect and enter 0000 (4 zeros) as a PIN to Connect. Pair
Printer with your laptop.

7. Success message is received once pairing is completed. Printer status now reads as
Paired accordingly.

8. After printer is paired, execute Unified Mobile Utility for POS file.

9. Chose mode of communication by selecting Bluetooth in the Interface field.

Note: If your laptop does not support Bluetooth, use USB Cable for Mobile Printers and
select USB option in the Interface field as preferred mode of communication.

10. To validate current firmware version, select Virtual Memory Switch Manager button.

11. After validating that current firmware version is less than V01.12, proceed with below
instructions to upgrade the firmware.
Click Cancel to back out.

12. Choose the File Transfer button

13. Tap Start Transfer (do not wait)

14. Refer to the enclosed folder, find and select firmware file titled SPP-R410_V01.12

15. Progress of the file transfer now displays accordingly.

16. Firmware is now updated. Refer to the below picture to validate how the printer will
look like once the software update is successfully pushed, then reset the printer.

3. Manual Validation of Firmware

17. To validate correct firmware version on the printer, once the printer is turned off, power
it back up while holding down the paper feed button.

18. The test printout displays current firmware version which now should read as V01.12.

IMPORTANT: Ensure that your printer is set to Production Mode as a firmware

update may take it off the Production Mode.

4. Additional Settings to Enhance Print Quality

19. After updating the firmware, to improve Print Quality, change and save following
settings from their default values so that:

o the Print Density is set to “150%”,

o Print Speed to “50mm/s”,

o Printer Service = “Label”,

o Auto Power Off Time (Not Connected) = “10” min,

o Auto Power Saving Time (Connected) = “10” sec.

Note: Paper quality and environmentally extreme temperatures will also affect print quality.

20. Follow these tips to preserve battery life:

o Li-ion batteries experience a performance degradation of approximately 1% or

less per year due to aging.

o It’s recommended to use or store the battery in an environment between 10 to 35

degrees Celsius (equivalent to 50 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit).

o Periodic charging is recommended to prevent the battery from being fully

discharged.

o Use the recommended charger. Room temperature charging is advised and

charging at low temperatures may result in decrease in connection performance
with the phone.
