SUBJECT: Reflection on the Spring 2024 Semester & My “Big 3” Goals

Throughout the semester, I have participated in a variety of assignments, projects, and


presentations that have contributed to my learning and understanding of the business writing
course. These major assignments have helped me to fulfill the “Big 3” writing goals that I set for
myself at the start of the semester as well as the expected learning outcomes for the course.\\

The first major goal I set for myself at the start of the course was to learn how to use more of a
formal tone instead of sounding too informal or over familiar. Going into the business world in
just one month, I wanted to understand where a formal tone is appropriate and how I can use it
when writing things as simple as emails. I have learned how to do this throughout each of the
assignments I have completed this semester, especially through the workplace documents, job
market materials, and business ethics report.

The second goal I set for myself at the start of the semester was to understand how to more
clearly organize my structure and flow of ideas when writing a business document. The
assignments that helped me with this the most were the. Social Media Audit Recommendation
Report and the Business Ethics Report. This is because each of these reports had a very
structured way about them that helped me to understand which section of the report should
contain which findings. These two assignments helped me realize that I need to create an outline
of my thoughts prior to writing so as I go, it can maintain organization.

The final goal I set for myself was to organize my thoughts better. This plays into how it is
necessary that I create an outline of my thoughts prior to writing an assignment. Each of the
major assignments I completed this semester helped me in working toward this goal as I created
an assignment outline before each of the projects that I completed.

The major assignments that I completed in the Business Writing course also set me up for
success to meet the required course outcomes that have been laid out for us. In general, these
concepts included writing across various genres, participating in a variety of writing to learn
opportunities, creating multiple drafts of assignments, and generating feedback and making
purposeful decisions about feedback.

Each of these outcomes have been met through the multiple assignments I completed throughout
this course. I wrote a variety of different business documents that contributed to gaining
experience in writing across various genres. Each of the major assignments were writing to learn
opportunities as I had never written some of the assignments before therefore, I was learning as I
went. Each major assignment, as will be seen throughout my website, required multiple drafts to
improve over time. Lastly, through various peer review workshops, I received feedback and had
to make decisions of what feedback to take and what to leave out.

Overall, this semester provided me with the necessary tools I need to enter the business world. I
now understand the basics of writing business documents that will come in handy throughout my
career. I am thankful to have taken this class and cannot wait to put my skills to the test in the
corporate setting.
