A. 20 minutes For today, you will study about angles formed by
Introduction lines and a transversal. We will find out how are they
related to each other based on their measurements and by
inductive reasoning.

Are you familiar with the hash symbol at the right? It

is being used by online users in creating hashtags for
events and issues. In this way, they can easily search for
their topic or theme.
Try to answer the questions below.

Questions:
1. What geometric figures are used to represent the hash symbol?
2. Are there angles formed? How many are they?
3. Can you see any similarities between or among the angles?
B. LESSON 1 Angles Formed by a Transversal
Development
A transversal is a line intersecting two or more coplanar lines at
different points.
Lines r and s are cut by a transversal
t. Angles on shaded regions are ∠ 2, ∠
3, ∠ 5 and ∠ 8 are called interior angles
and those on the unshaded region, ∠ 1, ∠
4, ∠ 6 and ∠ 7 are called exterior
angles.

Let us take a look at the following pairs of angles and name them:

∠ 1 and ∠ 5
∠ 2 and ∠ 6
∠ 3 and ∠ 7
∠ 4 and ∠ 8
These are 4 pairs of corresponding angles.

∠ 2 and ∠ 8
∠ 3 and ∠ 5
These are the 2 pairs of alternate interior
angles.

∠ 1 and ∠ 7
∠ 4 and ∠ 6
These are the 2 pairs of alternate exterior
angles.

side interior angles.

These are the 2 pairs of same-side exterior angles.

LESSON 2 Relationships Among Angles Formed

Given parallel lines h and k, cut by a transversal t, using a protractor, try to

find the measurements of the following angles:

∠1 = 500
∠4 =1300

TASK TO DO: Complete the table.

∠ 1 = ______ ∠ 3 = ______ ∠ 5 = ______ ∠ 7 = ______

∠ 4 = ______ ∠ 6 = ______
∠ 8 = ______
∠ 2 = ______

DISCUSSION
If you were able to complete the task above, you
may answers to the correct answers below. compare your

∠ 1 = 50° ∠ 3 = 50° ∠ 5 = 50°

∠ 7 = 50°

∠ 2 = 130° ∠ 4 = 130° ∠ 6 = 130°

∠ 8 = 130°
Based on the measurements above, the following statements hold true:
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then

1. Corresponding angles are CONGRUENT.

2. Alternate interior angles are CONGRUENT.
3. Alternate exterior angles are CONGRUENT.
4. Same-side interior angles are SUPPLEMENTARY.
5. Same-side exterior angles are SUPPLEMENTARY.
