WORK C TIME RTG MOS 6114 DESERT ENVIRONMENT – ENGINE HOT HYD PWR NA
ZONE R 0.5 NO. NO. 1 SECTION CLEANING COND AIR NA
N

NOTE: This card covers the requirements for engine hot section cleaning after the last flight of the day
when operating in a desert/sandy/dusty environment in order to reduce accumulation of sand and dirt internal
deposits and help maintain engine efficiency. Desert operation generally means operation in a very hot, dry,
dusty, often windy atmosphere. These areas are characterized by dry, barren, sandy regions with sparse
vegetation. Operating in these areas will cause erosion of compressor airfoils, sand/dirt buildup in the gas
generator turbine flow path, and clogging of internal cooling passages, which will result in power
deterioration. Hot section cleaning is required after operating in any of the following conditions: (1) takeoffs
or landings from unprepared surfaces that are sandy/dusty/dirty; (2) takeoffs or landings in brown out type
conditions reported by pilot; (3) acft operations conducted nap of the earth over desert type terrain (TERF or
HET); (4) operating in areas of known suspended sand in the atmosphere; (5) operating in the area of a sand
or dust storm.

Warnings in this manual alert personnel to hazards associated with the use of hazardous materials.
Additional information related to hazardous materials is provided in OPNAVINST 5100.23, Navy
Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH) program manual, NAVSUPINST 5100.27, Navy Hazardous
Material Control Program, and the DOD 6050.5, Hazardous Materials Information System (HMIS) series
publications. For each hazardous material used within the Navy, a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) must
be provided and available for review by users. Consult your local safety and health staff concerning any
questions regarding hazardous materials, MSDS, personal protective equipment requirements, appropriate
handling and emergency procedures, and disposal guidance.

Under the heading "HAZARDOUS MATERIALS WARNINGS", complete warnings, including related icon(s)
and a numeric identifier, are provided for hazardous materials used in this manual.

In the text of the manual, the caption "WARNING" is not used for hazardous material warnings. Hazards are
cited with appropriate icon(s), the nomenclature of the hazardous material, and the numeric identifier that
relates to the complete warnings. Users of hazardous materials shall refer to the complete warnings, as

INTRODUCTION

This manual contains the minimum Special/Preservation/Conditional and ASPA requirements necessary
to assure the aircraft is safe for flight. Clearances, pressures, tolerances, illustrations, support equipment
required, and manual references are present where pertinent. These requirements are grouped in the
following order:

SPECIAL Requirements - are developed from task which do not fit in the phased package due to
conflicting interval requirements. Inspection performed during Turnaround or Daily inspections shall not
be duplicated by special inspections.

PRESERVATION Requirements - provide short term preservation procedures, maintenance while

preserved and depreservation procedures.

CONDITIONAL Requirements - are presented in this manual when detailed.

ASPA Requirements - provide special inspection requirements for preparation of the aircraft for ASPA
evaluation and for restoration to a flight ready condition.
