Program Medical Laboratory Sciences
Title of Degree BTech in Medical Laboratory Sciences
Duration of Program 1 YEAR
Overview of Program/ Description
Medical Laboratory Sciences is a dynamic field that is designed to provide a broad basis
of fundamental scientific knowledge and its application such that the graduates are well
equipped to meet with challenges of modern scientific knowledge in health care and to
enable them to proceed further.
Students of this discipline at this level are exposed to the application of medical
laboratory sciences in the key areas such as medicine, food and beverage,
pharmaceutical industries utility departments e.g. Water Corporation and research
industries.
The courses offered are designed to expose students to core areas like Clinical
Chemistry, Haematology/Blood Transfusion Science, Histopathology, Medical
Microbiology, Immunology/Immunochemistry as well as Instrumentation and laboratory
management.
Students are required to broaden their knowledge in their core areas by taking ancillary
courses in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Anatomy and
Physiology and Pharmacology. They are also expected to understand the working of
laboratory instruments and the existing techniques and modify them where possible.
The practical aspect of the programmed prepares the students always to think in terms
of diagnostic criteria in the assessment and evaluation of clinical samples. The student
so trained would readily fit into any diagnostic laboratory in hospitals, Research
institutes, food industry laboratories and allied fields or be self-employed.
