A. General Background

A community is a place where group of people share common place, set of rules having

common goals to run the community for long run. Community is existed to fulfill the needs of

people residing in the place. To address the problems, finding solution for making community a

better place to live where are the main features of community. For this various plans and

policies are brought into the community. This is for the development of the community in

infrastructure, improving quality life of community people or sustaining livelihood of people

and building community as a whole. In other words creating roadmap of community for long

run. With this projects and programs that are brought into the community by consulting with

the people the concept of community development projects was begin into practice.

This research will examine the various projects that are brought in the ward no 1 of Nagarjun

Nagarpalika. Furthermore, it’s an implementation in the field will be analyzed. This research will

people whether it’s being carried out or not during five years.

B. Ward Profile

Altogether, there are 10 wards in Nagarjun Municipality. Ward no 1 is connected with

Tarakeshwor Municipality in the east and surrounded by Nagarjun forest in the north. Currently
the chairman of ward no 1 is Rameshowr Lama. In this ward mostly people are from Gorkha

district residing in this area. One of the reason why this ward has a strong consensus among the

peoples regarding any kind of works happening in the ward. Talking about the infrastructure

development that took place in the last few years is tremendous. Construction of road,

management of drainage, street lights, Water tank etc are the things which construction took

rapidly.

Findings/ Analysis

A. Community development projects

Last year altogether 24 projects were brought into the community and the sectors were

physical development, education development, health development, women empowerment,

Drinking water supply management, and economic and social development projects. These

projects also include demand projects by the local people.

B. Infrastructure Projects

Regarding infrastructure sector in which ward has been successfully to construct the roads in

the ward either it’s black topped or concrete pitch withinthe ward. Ward also successfully

completed the water tank in the ward to supply water to houses. Most important road access

to Three water ( Teen dhara) in which more than 70 population of this ward depends upon this

for drinking purpose has been completed in time.

C. Social projects

Regarding this project Ward had focused on Women development. Providing women skill

training especially to the widowed women, and marginalized women. Ward also focused on

reducing gender disparity. Awareness programs were brought regarding child marriage,

superstition, untouchability and other social problems that existed in the ward. Allocation of

budget and supervising to the Manab Ashram.

D. Environmental projects

In this secotr, Ward had brought cleanliness program with the involvement of ward people

especially group of various association like Aama Samuha, Youth Club. Ward also had promised

to ban the plastic use in the ward.

3. Community Need assessment

Community needs assessment is done in order to check the projects that the ward doing is

against of the people desire or not. For this I have surveyed 10 household and analyzed based

on that.

Analzing the data getting from household survey, it was found that there was no dissatisfaction

among people regarding the development of roads, construction of water supply tank, drain

construction on both sides of the road. People were satisfied with the construction of road

which access to the Three water tap which eases the people to fetch the water. Especially

women were happy when ward is giving priority to women development. During survey I met 8

women in which all women were engaged in different groups like Ama samuha, Women

development. They also took participation in women skill training and different awareness

programmes. However some works that have brought dissatisfaction among people of waste

management, water supply management as expected hasn’t reached to each house which still

causes people depend upon water supply vehicle. Most important few areas especially of

Microstation of Kharibkt road and drainage haven’t been managed yet which still hinders

people dissatisfied with the ward work. Talking about waste management people knows this is
not the problem of only ward but problem of Kathmandu.

4. Analysis and Findings

While doing the research in each household, In an overall analysis as below the chart tells that

more than half household are satisfied with the development projects taking place being

implemented has benefited to them. Remaining says that are quiet satisfied and completely

dissatisfied with the ward development projects.

Although people were satisfied with the development works that were demanded but some

important works which haven’t still completed yet like management of Microstation, flood
minimize during rainfall.
