Determine the end behaviors of the following polynomial functions.

a) f (x) = 2x3 − 3x2 + 2x − 4

b) g(x) = −x3 + x4 + x − 5

d) k(x) = 56 x21 + x15 − 16

Question 2.

Sketch the graphs of the following polynomial functions.

a) f (x) = x3 + 4x2 − 3x − 18

b) g(x) = −2x3 − x2 + 8x + 4

c) h(x) = x4 − 1

Question 3.

Find the vertex of the graph of each of the following quadratic functions. State the minimum/maximum
value of each function. Sketch their graphs.

a) f (x) = x2 + 2x + 1

b) f (x) = 3x2 + x + 1

c) f (x) = 6x2 − 3x + 2

d) f (x) = 2x2 + 5x − 1

Question 4.

State whether each of the following statements is true or false. Make sure you understand why your
answer is what it is.

a) The graph of a rational function cannot have both a vertical and a horizontal asymptotes

b) It is not possible to have a rational function whose graph has no y− intercept.

c) The graph of a rational function can have three horizontal asymptotes.
