B. Activity/ Directions: The following is Jenny’s personal recount of her summer vacation.
Motivation Let a student act as Jenny and read it to the class.
My Island Paradise Experience
Last summer break, my family went to Bantayan Island for a short vacation
From Cebu City, it took us about five hours to get there through bus and ferry
boat. The travel was a little exhausting because of its distance but it was all
worth it. I was astonished upon seeing the island paradise for its pristine white
sand beaches and crystal-clear waters.
When we were in the island, me and my brother Jake really enjoyed
swimming while savoring our favorite seafoods like fish, crab, squid, and
shells. I must say that those were the freshest seafoods I have ever tasted.
Aside from swimming, I also tried kayaking and jet skiing with my father.
At first, I was scared trying them but my father helped me overcome my fear.
Kayaking and jet skiing are definitely something that I would try again.
As for my mother, she liked buying some memorabilia for her friends such
as locally-crafted bracelets and other accessories. She also looked after my
little sister who loved playing sand castles by the beach.
Indeed, my summer vacation was the best island experience in my entire
life. I truly had an awesome bonding experience with my family.

Directions: Answer the following questions orally.

1. What did Jenny share to the class?
2. What are the events that happened during their vacation?
3. When reporting or speaking in front of the class, what should the
speaker observe?

C.Analysis Directions: Answer the following question for class interaction.

(3 minutes) 1. Was the activity easy?
2. Were you able to answer all the questions?
Today , our lesson will focus on using the appropriate oral language,
stance and behavior when giving information or when delivering a speech.

D.Abstraction Let us discuss…

(15 minutes) What is a personal recount?
A personal recount is a retelling a sequence of events that happened
personally to the writer or speaker.
Parts of a personal recount:
1. Title - The title should tell the reader or listener what the recount is all
about.
2. Setting - The reader needs to know: who is in the recount; where it took
place; why it took place; when it took place. This sets the scene for the event.
3. Events 1,2,3,4... - The reader needs to know what happened. Events are
recorded in the order they occurred, from the very beginning to the end.
4. Ending - A general comment about the event, or the results of the event, is
used to end the recount.
What is Oral Language?
An oral language is the system through which we use spoken words to
express knowledge, ideas, and feelings. It consists of six areas:
phonology, grammar, morphology, vocabulary, discourse, and pragmatics.
(Refer to Quarter 3-Module 2)
The goal of learning a language is to communicate. Oral communication
skills are fundamental to the development of literacy and essential for thinking
and learning. It is the glue that puts all the components of a language together.
Through talk, you not only communicate information but also explore and
come to understand ideas and concepts; identify and solve problems; organize
experience and knowledge; and express and clarify thoughts, feelings, and
opinions. You get to experience more of these as you continue to live and
interact with others. Listening and speaking skills are essential for interaction
at home, at school, and in the community.
Oral language is one of the most important skills students can master—
both for social and academic success. Learners use this skill throughout the
day to process and deliver instructions, make requests, ask questions, receive
new information, and interact with peers.

F.Generalization It takes practice and effort to deliver a good presentation. But, if you know
how to avoid the pitfalls, your presentations will be great. Remember, public
speaking is a performance. Practice speaking clearly at a slower pace than
your normal speech to avoid "rapid-fire" delivery. Use eye contact, body
language, and gestures that complement your message to keep your audience
engaged.
Remember the 3 Es of Effective Delivery: Energy, Eye Contact, and
Expression

G. Assessment I. Directions: Write true if the statement expresses a correct use of oral
5minutes) language and behavior when giving information, narrating events and personal
recounts. Write false if it does not.
1. Use hand and body gestures to emphasize your points.
2. Do not look at the audience so that you will not be distracted.
3. Use grammatically correct language.
4. Talk really fast.
5. Modulate your voice to be heard by everybody in the audience.
6. Move anywhere without a purpose.
7. Follow the time limit.
II. Directions: The following items inside the table are reminders whenever
we give oral presentations. Write DO if it is to be applied and DON’T if to be
avoided.
1) Decide what the purpose of your talk really is.
2) Face your audience.
3) Speak loudly enough to be heard by the entire audience, even those in the
back row.
4) Fidget nervously in front of your audience.
5) Prepare a talk that will fit within the time limit you're given.
H. Additional Directions: Write your personal recount or narrate any of your memorable
Activities for experience. Write at least three paragraphs with a minimum 50 words. Let
Application or the following recount checklist be your guide in writing.
Remediation if Recount Checklist:
Needed  Does your recount have a title?
 Are the events in order?
 Capitalization (Example: The sun shines brightly.)
 Punctuation marks (Example: I enjoyed eating, reading and watching TV.)
 It uses grammatically correct language.
 It uses appropriate vocabulary for the topic.
