The big idea(s) or essential question(s)

Draw shapes that when put together can make another shape.

State of Idaho and/or common core standards addressed

K.G.B. Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes

Objectives
(what the students will be able to do as a result of the lesson)

- Students will be able to differentiate between 2-D and 3-D shapes using informal
language.

- Model shapes in the world by building shapes from components/materials and drawing
shapes.

- Combine simple shapes to form larger two-dimensional shapes.

TSWBAT

Students Will be able to Identify and illustrate 2-D shapes along with identifying
3-D shapes

TSWBAT

Students will be able to combine simple shapes to make a larger shape.

Materials and/or technology Needed

Paper, crayons, markers, manipulative shapes (such as triangles, rectangles,

squares, circles, blocks etc.)
Activities/procedures (include anticipated time for each)
- First, I would review the shapes with everyone 2-D and 3-D (this may
take 3-5 minutes)
- then go into what shapes can make different shapes (this may take 3
minutes)
- Finally, after reviewing the shapes I would introduce/ have them start the
assignment (hopefully around 6 minutes)

- (I would have supplies already on the table and things pulled up)

Closure/reminders

I would remind the students to make sure they have at least two 3-D shapes
and two shapes that make one big shape.

Assessment
(how you will know students met the objectives - include rubrics)
When students are drawing, I would give them the instruction to include at least
two 3-D shapes and two 2-D shapes and use two shapes to make one big
shape. By drawing the shapes, I would be able to see that students understand
what the different shapes are.

Accommodations/differentiation

For students who cannot physically draw I would give them different shapes for
them to manipulate and build a model using those shapes that doesn’t work I
will have the students describe what they want to draw while I or another adult
draw what the student is describing.
